Lady Blazer golf second at Worland tournament

WORLAND – The Torrington High School golf team got an early look at the course which will host the 3A East Conference Golf Tournament later this season on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Blazers brought home second place, while the boys’ team placed 10th.

Leading the way for the Torrington girls was senior Caleigh Essert with a two-day total of 150.

Her score was nine strokes better than Maria Farnum of Thunder Basin High School.

Essert fired a tournament-low score of 71 on day one before shooting a 79 on day two. Her round of 71 was the only round in the 70s on Friday.

Laura Halley ended the tournament with a 200, including a sub-100 round on the first day of the event. Jade Reinhardt shot a 210 and Jenna Kaufman finished one stroke behind with a 211.

As a team, the Lady Blazers shot a 557 to place second. Thunder Basin won the team title with a 529. Sheridan was third with a 559.

In the boys’ division, it was Jordan Malm who paced the Blazers with a two-day total of 168.

He shot an 82 on day one and an 86 on day two.

Ryder Hackbarth shot a 219, while Thomas Herron fired a 221. Bodie Herring rounded out the Blazer scoring with a 229.

As a team, the Blazers shot an 837. Worland dominated the team title with a 613, while Sheridan was second with a 671. Thunder Basin was third with a 701.

The Torrington golf teams are back in action Thursday and Friday at Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. both days.
