L-FL girls falter in two

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers suffered back-to-back losses over the weekend, falling on the road Friday against Burns, 51-36, and losing to Pine Bluffs at home Saturday, 64-21.

Pine Bluffs 64, L-FL 21

The Lady Hornets stormed out to 20 points after the first quarter, while blanking L-FL. By halftime, the visitors built a 35-8 lead. L-FL senior Jade Cooper had all eight of the Lady Doggers’ first-half points. In the third quarter, Pine Bluffs extended its lead to 54-16 and cruised to the 64-21 win in the fourth quarter, which had a running clock for part of the frame.

Cooper finished the game with 10 points, including the eight points from the first frame. She was perfect from the free-throw line (5-of-5) and hit a three-pointer, while rounding out her stat line with a team-high four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Savannah Mirich chipped in five points in the loss, along with two boards and a steal. Kaelyn Riley, Kelcie Sargent and Avy Emerson had two points apiece. Riley also had a steal. Ashley Riley finished the game with two assists, a rebound and a steal, while Jessy White and Callie Fritzler had a board each.

Burns 51, L-FL 36

L-FL built a lead in the first quarter, outscoring Burns 13-12 and they upped their lead to 22-20 at the halftime horn. Burns made their comeback in the second half, racking up 15 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth, while limiting the Lady Doggers to seven points in each frame.

Ashley Riley had a stellar game, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line, pouring in 21 points in the contest, which she paired with five boards, three assists and two steals.

Cooper kicked in another eight points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Mirich, Kaelyn Riley and White rounded out the scoring by combining for seven points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Lady Doggers now sit at 5-9 on the year after their two weekend losses. L-FL returns to its SEWAC schedule with a game Thursday against Southeast at Eastern Wyoming College at 6 p.m., followed by a home game Friday against Lusk at 5:30 p.m.
