L-FL boys second at T-Town Qualifier; Lady Doggers fifth

TORRINGTON – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys’ track and field team finished second at the T-Town Qualifier at Torrington’s Wiseman Field last Thursday.

The Doggers scored six wins on the day to score a total of 124 points, just 30 fewer than the host Torrington Blazers.

Cooper Hill, Nolan Spears, Kyland Fuller, the 4x800-meter relay and the sprint medley relay finished atop of their respective events.

Hill won two events, winning long jump at 19 feet, 7 inches and the 100-meter dash in 11.81 seconds.

Hill also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.78 seconds, finishing ahead of a trio of other Doggers. Spears was fifth, while Corey Ducheneaux was seventh and Michael Lawrence was ninth.

Hill also ran a leg of the sprint medley relay, along with Spears, Quirt Lee and Fuller en route to a victory in 3 minutes, 53.53 seconds.

The 4x800 team of Myles Wilson, Aidan Mattheus, Kyle Gutierrez and Noah Hatch claimed 10 points with a run of 10:22.41.

In other relay action, the 4x400 team of Dustin Swartwood, Wyatt Sylvester, Cooper Fauber and Hatch placed second in 4:15.57, while the 4x100 team of Fauber, Swartwood, Sylvester and Lee placed third in 50.63 seconds.

Spears got a win in the 400-meter dash in 55.7 seconds, beating out Mattheus, who placed seventh in 1:06.08.

Fuller picked up the team’s sixth win of the day in the 800-meter run in 2:13.37. Sylvester finished fourth in 2:34.2.

The Doggers also had a pair of second-place finishes. Wilson crossed the finish line in second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:36.86, while Ducheneaux was second in the high jump at a height of 5-3.

In other field events, Sylvester finished third in pole vault at 8-3, while Ducheneaux was fifth in the triple jump at 35-7 1/2.

In the girls’ division, Emma Walker picked up the lone win for the Lady Doggers.

Her time of 54 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles topped the event. M’Lynn Hill was eighth in 1:03.63, and Josie Houk was 11th.

Walker also finished second in the 100-meter hurdle event in 18.51. Houk was fifth and Hill sixth.

The Lady Doggers also had a series of second-place finishes, including one by Natalie Speckner in the 800-meter run in 2:33.3. Holly Leiseth was fourth and Hailey Smith was sixth in the same event.

A pair of relay teams finished second as the 4x400 team of Leiseth, Maddy Saul, Walker and Speckner crossed the finish line in 4:8.77, while the sprint medley relay team, consisting of the same four runners, also finished second in 4:40.55.

In the 4x100 relay, Houk, Maddie Heilbrun, Hill and Ashlee Hattan finished seventh in 59.35.

In the sprints, Saul placed fifth in the 200 in 29.8, while Heilbrun finished eighth in the 400 in 1:14.04. Morgan Cornelius was 10th in 1:23.8 in the 400.

In field events, Izzy Spears placed in the top eight in both throwing events, finishing sixth in discus at 81-3 and eighth in shot put at 27-7 1/2.

Heilbrun cleared 4-3 in high jump to finish fourth, while Smith finished fifth in pole vault at 5-9. Hattan cleared 5-1 to place seventh.

Hattan also finished 11th in long jump at 13-2 3/4.

The Lady Doggers finished the day fifth with 79.5 points. Torrington dominated the team standings with 215 points. Pine Bluffs was second with 107.5.

The Doggers are back in action in Bayard, Neb. on Saturday, April 10.
