LINGLE – The Niobrara County Tigers went 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final minute of last Friday’s contest to fend off the Lingle-Fort Laramie boys’ basketball team, handing the Doggers a 52-43 home loss.
It was a close game for all 32 minutes.
Through the first three quarters of play, neither team held more than a seven-point advantage.
Late in the opening quarter, the visitors pushed their lead to 12-5, but a late basket by senior Ty Prall started a Dogger rally.
Less than two minutes into the second quarter, sophomore Corey Ducheneaux had the hot hand, drawing the Doggers within one at 14-13.
It would be another three minutes later before L-FL took its first lead of the game at 19-18 courtesy of Prall.
It was a lead the Doggers held through halftime into the early parts of the third.
A 9-1 run over a four-minute span put the Tigers back in front 33-25, but L-FL once again, battled back.
They cut the deficit to 35-33 heading into the final eight minutes, and a 3-pointer by Dogger senior Hunter Hattan put L-FL back in front 36-35.
Prall answered with two more points on the ensuing possession, but Lusk tied the game at 38 with 6:22 remaining in the game on three free throws.
A minute later, the Tigers went back in front – this time for good.
In the closing moments of the game, the Doggers were forced to go into foul mode to extend the game, but the Tigers went 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final minute of the game to secure the road win.
Prall and Ducheneaux led the Doggers with nine points each, while Hattan added seven. Senior Cordell Forkner, Prall and Ducheneaux grabbed five rebounds each.
The loss drops L-FL to 3-11 on the season. The Doggers are back in action twice this weekend, hosting Rock River (3-5) on Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Lingle travels to Hanna-Elk Mountain (6-8) for a 3 p.m. contest.
