YODER – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Dogger wrestlers went 1-3 Saturday at the Southeast Duals in Yoder, finishing 12th as a team after falling to Hayden, Colo. in their final dual of the day.

Burns/Pine Bluffs 38, L-FL 29

Jessy Valentine got the day started off in L-FL’s first dual on Saturday against Burns/Pine Bluffs. Valentine, the Doggers’ 220-pounder, took on Darrell Goeckeler, falling by pin in the first period. Wade Pollock got a forfeit win for Burns/Pine Bluffs, before L-FL’s Joel Costello got a forfeit win at 106 pounds.

Honorary Dogger Zander Gutierrez (Gering) competed at 113 pounds, besting Henry Bien (Chadron) by pin in 15 seconds. North Park’s Destry Schidt wrestled for L-FL at 120 pounds, falling in a 9-3 sudden victory loss against Matthew Kohel (Mitchell). Gaven Niles got the team back on the winning track by pinning Zach Cudney at the 1:07-mark.

Another North Park wrestler in Waylan Fletcher joined the Doggers in the mix, competing at 132 pounds and winning by a 20-3 techinical fall over Colby Stockton. After a double-forfeit at 138 pounds, Zane Rising (145) pinned Tate Kelly in the second period. Fellow Dogger Dustin Swartwood took the mat at 152 pounds, falling in a 15-0 technical fall against Dustin Mondragon.

Both teams had an open at 160 pounds, resulting in a double forfeit. Closing out the dual, the Doggers had three honorary members compete. Alliance’s Xing Xu (170) was pinned in the second period against Kyle Thurin. Chadron’s Aiden Vaughn suffering a loss via pin in the second period by Boe Clayson. Burns/Pine Bluffs closed out the dual with Ben Banville (195) pinning Cordell Garriot (North Park).

Alliance 72, L-FL 9

Heavyweight Nathan Lauder started the Bulldogs off with a forfeit win. Costello snagged a win at 106 pounds by pinning Ian Erickson in the second period. Gutierrez was pinned in the first period against Tyson Knaub and Scmidt suffered the same fate in the second period against Evan Steggs.

L-FL’s Niles was pinned in the first period against Jaxon Minnick. Asa Johnson pinned Fletcher late in the third period, before Alliance got another forfeit win at 138 pounds. Rising and Swartwood were both pinned in the first period, falling to Jorgen Johnson (145) and Braydon Wilson (152). Lane Applegarth snagged a forfeit win at 160 pounds.

Xu lost by pin in the first period against Jayce Bauer, with Vaughn also suffering a pin in the second period against Matthew Escamilla. Garriott recorded the final win for the Doggers in a 4-2 decision over Jace Moss. Valentine closed out the dual against Baily Hood, falling by pin in the first period.

L-FL 54, Minatare 22

The Doggers closed out pool play with a win over Minatare, starting with a win by Costello over Lawrence Rodriguez in the form of a pin at the 1:14-mark. Gutierrez surrendered a pin late in the first period against Conrad Sibal (Gering), before Schmidt and Niles picked up forfeit wins. Fletcher continued the winning with a pin over Carlos Martinez in the second period. L-FL again gave up a forfeit at 138, before Rising won by a forfeit.

Swartwood suffered a 14-0 major decision loss against Allen McCumbers (Sioux County). After a double forfeit, Xu picked up a pin in 22 seconds over Mark Merryfield (Burns/Pine Bluffs). Vaughn and Garriott both won by forfeit. Valentine closed out the dual against Ceasar Garduno, falling by pin in the second period.

Hayden 48, L-FL 21

The Doggers went into round robin action and took on Hayden to close out the day. Gutierrez suffered a pin in the first period against Taylor Powell to kick off the dual, before Schmidt went the distance, falling in a 6-5 decision against Wyatt Murphy.

Niles got L-FL back to winning with a 13-5 major decision over Garrett Murphy. Fletcher kept things rolling with a 15-0 technical fall over Wade Hendricks. After a forfeit loss for the Doggers at 138, Swartwood was pinned in the first period against Jake Planansky. Rising went the distance in his match, but was defeated in a 9-4 decision.

Hayden picked up the forfeit win at 160, before Xu was pinned in the first by Hunter Planansky. Vaughn picked up six more points for L-FL by pinning Zander Hottell (Burns/Pine Bluffs) in 45 seconds. Garriott won by forfeit, before Valentine was pinned in the second period against Lincoln Siebert (Burns/Pine Bluffs). There was a double forfeit in the heavyweight division, before Costello closed out the dual in a loss against Payton Planansky by pin in the first period.

The Doggers’ final regular season action comes this weekend in Hanna-Elk Mountain for the Carbon County Invite, starting at 1 p.m. Friday. Feb. 17 marks the start of the postseason with the regional tournament in Burns.
