TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Kenneth Eugene Steinmetz, 78, will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Lighthouse Ministries, 3802 Hot Springs Street in Torrington with Pastor Rick Carroll officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Torrington American Legion Post No. 5 and Wyoming Army National Guard military funeral honors will follow at Valley View Cemetery. 

Kenny passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home in Glenrock. 

Memorials can be given to the Wyoming Down Syndrome Association, 1150 North Third Street, Laramie, Wyoming 82072 or Lighthouse Ministries, 3802 Hot Springs Street, Torrington, Wyoming 82240. 

Kenny was born Friday, June 25, 1943 in Torrington to George Henry and Eva Katie (Lepp) Steinmetz and graduated from Torrington High School. After school Kenny started work at Holly Sugar part time and went to boot camp in 1962 at Fort Riley, Kansas. In 1966 he began working full time at Holly Sugar in Torrington after being discharged with expert rifle commendation from the Army National Guard. Kenny married Norma Jean Lay on September 3, 1965 in Torrington. To this marriage two sons were born, Kip Eugene and Corey Alan Steinmetz. After retiring in 2004 the couple moved to Glenrock to be closer to grandchildren. Kenny drove activity bus for 15 years so he could watch his grandchildren compete in sports and cheer on every member of the team.  

Kenny had many hobbies including gardening, fishing, bowling and repairing engines. He could fix anything, grow anything, build anything or make anything run; he loved a challenge. He and Norma took many trips to South Dakota on their motorcycles and enjoyed riding in the mountains. Kenny loved his family, he loved spending time with all of them, he was a generous family man above everything else.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Norma, of Glenrock; sons, Kip and Laurie (Lanphier) of Glenrock and Corey and Cheri (Wagner) of Lingle.; grandchildren Celsie and ( Mac ) Sussex, Paige and (Garrett) Reid, Piper and Payton Steinmetz as well as great grandchildren, Aria and Ryker Sussex; brother, Gerald (Glee) Steinmetz of Torrington; sisters, Kathleen Williamson of Boulder, Colorado, Judy (Harold) Weis of Torrington, Linda (John) Reichert of Alaska, Mary Lou (Dean) Miller of Gig Harbor, Washington and Patty Schlagel of Torrington. 

He was preceded in death by parents, George, on October 19, 1994 and Eva, on May 9, 2017 and brothers-in-law, Drew Williamson on December 16, 2012 and Ronald Schlagel on October 1, 2010. 

Urn bearers will be Mac Sussex and Garrett Reid.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of the arrangements.
