TORRINGTON – Keith Cassel passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2018, at the Goshen County Care Center. A celebration of his life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington.

Keith was born July 24, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He lived in Mitchell, Neb., until the age of 8, when his family moved to Torrington. He was the son of Gering and Zeta (Foreman) Cassel. 

Keith graduated from Torrington High School in 1946. He attended the University of Wyoming before returning to work in the family bakery. He married Ardith Maude on Aug. 4, 1953, at the First Presbyterian Church in Torrington. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Kyle, Matthew, and Darren. 

Keith owned and operated Cassel Bakery for many years. After selling the bakery, he worked at several local business before returning to baking at the food services of Eastern Wyoming College.  

Keith was very involved in the community and loved the town of Torrington and the state of Wyoming. Keith was a proud member for many years of the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. 

He spent many years as a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach. He was a signatory for the Little League charter that brought the sport officially to Torrington. Summers could find him walking the fairways of what he referred to as the “Greatest Little Golf Course in Wyoming.” He was a dedicated BIL to his wife’s PEO sisterhood. He was always a sports fan and loved his Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and all University of Wyoming sports teams. 

He was a member to the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years. He held several church offices, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. 

Keith was married to Ardith for 64 years. Their legacy includes sons Kyle (Jamie), Matthew (Jane), and Darren (Andria), grandchildren Jay (Catherine), Adam (Celicia), Ashley Robison (Matthew), Colby, Sydney Holmgren (Peter), Jesse, Connor, Tanner and Beckett, and great-grandchildren Kiersea, Kaleigha, Tynne, Kailani, and Kenley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gering and Zeta Cassel, wife Ardith, and grandson Samuel.

Colyer Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements. The family requests memorials to the First Wyoming Presbyterian Church in Torrington. 

There will be a luncheon in Keith’s honor at the Cottonwood Country Club following the service.
