AMARILLO, Texas – Our mother, June Crawford Powell, entered heaven on Nov. 26, 2018. At the time of passing, she lived in Amarillo, Texas, near her youngest daughter Nancy (Powell) Burrell. Mom was born June 1, 1930, in Alliance, Neb. She was preceded in death by our Dad, William (Bill) Powell in December 2015. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage together. Also preceding Mom in death were parents, Fred and Bonnie Crawford, sisters Edie and Helen, and brothers Ray, Leland and Gene.

Mom had us five kids – Jean Barth (Jim) of Beaverton, Ore., Barbara Pape (Paul) of Bastrop, Texas, Nancy Burrell (Johnny) of Amarillo, Bruce Powell (Julie) of Waxhaw, N.C., and Chris Powell of Aloha, Ore., 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many other family members, all who loved her and will miss her greatly. Our sorrow is assuaged by the promise of reunion in heaven for eternity with her and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mom was raised in Box Butte County, Neb., on the ranch that her father homesteaded as part of the Kincaid Act of 1904. She lived on the ranch until 1971, when she followed Dad’s employment opportunities, setting up residences in Litchfield Park, Ariz., Longmont, Colo., and Torrington.

Retirement took Mom and Dad to Bastrop, where they made a home near daughter Barbara (Powell) Pape. Wherever mom lived, she established a comfortable home for her family, got connected with a local church, and used her skills to make life better for everyone she met. Mom never met a person she didn’t want to feed, and oh, what a good cook and consummate hostess she was.

Mom had a deep interest in providing the Scripture to people around the world who do not have access to the Bible in a language they understand. Tax deductible memorial gifts to support this goal may be made to JAARS Inc., P.O. Box 248, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Please designate your gift as a memorial to June Powell, for Project A-200 Aviation Training.

A memorial service was held at Bastrop Christian Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop. Funeral Services were under the direction of Bastrop Providence Funeral Home in Bastrop.
