No one knows how long she has stood in the same spot. She’s looking a little tough these days. Some of her branches still produce a few leaves, and many of them don’t. Those that produce some cover have housed many a birds’ nest, and a quiet place for barn owls and hawks to silently watch what is happening.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

No one knows how long she has stood in the same spot. She’s looking a little tough these days. Some of her branches still produce a few leaves, and many of them don’t. Those that produce some cover have housed many a birds’ nest, and a quiet place for barn owls and hawks to silently watch what is happening.

The center of this old girl was once hit by lightning, causing a split right down the middle, but still she stayed standing. That split which was once hardly noticeable gets wider as each year passes. When the Wyoming wind blows I can hear her creaking from the house, but still she stays standing. Her roots must go clear to the center of the earth to hold her up. Time and time again she is battered and threatened, but yet she stands.

Life does that to all of us from time to time. Trials and trouble come roaring in just like the wild Wyoming winds and threaten to topple us. Unforeseen circumstances hit us like a jagged lightning bolt coming out of a dark cloud, We see folks that are upended by the least little “life breeze”, and see others that are standing tall, maybe slightly beaten with a few scars, from life adventures that have hit them time and time again.

Just as my old tree needs to have an incredible root system, so do we. We have no idea if sunny days, or days filled with adventures are headed our way. I don’t want to wait until the storm hits to try to strengthen my root system! God is able to use the stormy days to do incredible things in our lives. We have to know and trust Him first. I want to be one whose roots are rooted deeply in The Word, rooted deep in God’s love, with an insurmountable amount of faith, to hold me firm when the rough times come.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

We don’t have to look far to see friends that are going through storms. Pray for them friends, pray for them.
