James Robert “Bob” Garcia

ESPANOLA, N.M. – James Robert “Bob” Garcia, 77, of Espanola, passed away on May 20, 2021. 

James was born Oct. 25, 1943, to James and Bertha Garcia in Trinidad, Colorado, where he also grew up. He obtained an AA degree in Liberal Arts from Trinidad State Junior College in 1964. James continued his education at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado and majored in Education, English and Spanish, receiving his BA Degree in 1969 and a Masters in Cultural Sociology in 1973. James then pursued and earned a Ph.D. in Education Administration, Curriculum, Supervision, Evaluation, and Academic Research at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1982.

James moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1975 where he worked at Eastern Wyoming College for 21 years. While in Torrington, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being a part of various groups/activities through his church and local sports. 

James held various educational administrative positions in Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico and later chose Espanola as his home.

James is survived by his son Aaron (Jennifer) Garcia of Torrington, Wyoming, brother Ron (Linda) Garcia of Minot, N.D., sister Elvera (Jerry) Crispin of Colorado City, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Garcia, oldest son, Todd Garcia, and older brother, Jimmy Garcia.

Funeral services will be held June 2 and flowers can be sent to Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home in Trinidad, Colorado.
