TORRINGTON – Funeral services for James “Jim” LeRoy Duncan, 66, will be 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 4, 2018, at the First Congregational Church in Torrington with Pastor Matthew Gordon officiating.

Jim passed away at his home near Lingle and cremation has taken place. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Jim was born Aug. 24, 1951, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Alvin “Bud” and Delores (Popp) Duncan. He grew up in the Torrington area, moving to the family farm near Lingle in 1957. He received his education at Lingle Schools, graduating in 1969. 

Jim worked for his father and Kenny Johnson at Valley Line Construction, later becoming part owner. 

Jim married Mollie Adkins on June 19, 1982, and to this union three daughters were born, JoDee, Megan, and Erin. 

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially throwing horseshoes. He was quite proud of being a part of the Wyoming Horseshoe Pitchers Association, holding office for more than 20 years, and being state horseshoe champion for multiple years. Jim was also greatly involved with Wyoming Job’s Daughters, holding the offices of Associate Bethel Guardian and Associate Grand Guardian. He was known by all the girls at Torrington Bethel 20 for his support and speech, “You’ll get out of Job’s what you put into it.” Jim gave roses to all the initiates while Associate Bethel Guardian. Jim was also known throughout the state for his love of the organization and support of the girls.

Jim was especially proud of his daughters and a great support in all their activities. He continued that support with his granddaughters. When circumstances dictated a change in Jim’s life he became the best daycare provider to his beautiful granddaughters. He said daily, “What happens at Poppa’s, stays at Poppa’s”. 

He will be greatly missed by his wife Mollie of Lingle; daughters, JoDee (Sergio) Mendez of Torrington, Megan Shaw of Lingle, and Erin Duncan of Greeley, Colo.; his precious granddaughters, Lainey Sekerka and Lily Hutchinson of Lingle, and Arayu and Diem Mendez of Torrington. 

Jim is also survived by his father, Bud, and stepmother Betsy Duncan of Lingle; brother, Alvin Jr. of Shasta Lake, Calif.; sisters, Pam (Roger) Peterson of Lusk, Cindy (Charlie) Sharp of Glenrock, Kathi (Gary) Rickard of Lingle, Ginger (Vernon) Jones of Guernsey; stepbrothers, Kenny (Ruby) Starrett, Mike (Tammy) Starrett of Gillette and Don (Christine) Starrett of Mason City, Ill.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family and friends. 

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Dee Popp Duncan; stepmother Delores Duncan; special aunt and uncle, Pat and Butch Sorenson; as well as several other family members.
