LINGLE – After six seasons at Torrington High School, Chelsi Jackson will make the switch to the west to take over the Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Dogger program beginning in the fall of 2022.
Of those six years, Jackson coached the junior varsity team one year and the varsity squad the other five. She went 60-79 in those five seasons in Torrington, qualifying for state three times.
Her best season came during the 2020 COVID year which saw the Lady Blazers finish the season 15-5 despite not reaching the state tournament because of the single elimination style postseason format which was in place that season.
Jackson also spent time as the junior varsity coach at THS, two years as an assistant coach at Eastern Wyoming College and coached at Torrington Middle School.
Jackson now faces the tall task of changing teams and classifications. She will be meeting her new team in the middle as she drops down from 3A to 2A, while Lingle will move up from 1A to 2A in 2022.
“I’m excited for a fresh and new start. I’ve heard these girls have a lot of drive in Lingle,” Jackson said. “I’ll have to adjust going from 3A down to 2A, but if I can take the 3A mentality with me, we could maybe speed up the game for the Lingle crew.”
She’s excited to get started with the young group of players in Lingle.
“I got to meet with them a few weeks ago, and they seem really excited and willing to do summer stuff. It’s going to be a good season,” Jackson said. “I’ve seen what they can do over the years, and they do come to Torrington to play. It’s not going to be all brand new.”
There is also a lot of excitement among the team, according to Jackson.
“I hope that it will correspond on the court, and that they will be really driven to give their all and show who they really are in 2A,” she said.
Emily Cottrell and Makenna Miller will be joining Jackson on the sidelines next year.
“I’m excited to have them,” Jackson said. “They are very well versed in volleyball. They are very open minded and are willing to try new things. It’s always great when you have a close coaching staff.”
Cottrell will coach the junior varsity team, while ‘C’ team will be coached by Miller.
“I want to wish the Lady Blazers the best of luck next season, Jackson said. “I’ll still be cheering them on.”
