LINGLE – It took the Lingle-Fort Laramie High School football team only 20 seconds to find the end zone on Friday night en route to a 53-16 win over the Moorcroft Wolves.

Freshman kick returner Louden Bremer took the opening kick back 85 yards to give the Doggers an early 6-0 lead. It was the first of 33 first-half points for the Doggers.

“We talked about it all week. We knew we would have a chance to return one,” LFL coach Brandon Gifford said. “The ball went to the right guy, and we were able to block the right way, the right men, the right personnel. It was perfect.”

It was the first of four touchdowns by Bremer for the evening.

The second came at the 4:01 mark in the first quarter when he sprinted 37 yards to give the Doggers a 13-0 lead after a successful point after from freshman kicker Elijah Hatch.

Bremer also got the Doggers on the scoreboard early in the third quarter with a 29-yard run, pushing the Dogger lead to 40-0.

“We knew if we went out and played our game that we should win this football game,” Gifford said. “That is something this young football has to learn is how to win and win games you are supposed to and how to put teams away.”

In between the two rushing touchdowns, LFL got touchdown from junior Slade Hopkins and two from sophomore quarterback Nolan Spears.

In the final two minutes of the third quarter, Moorcroft got on the scoreboard.

Lingle answered with two more touchdowns. The first coming with 10:06 left in the game when Bremer completed the trifecta – scoring on offense, defense and special teams – with a pick six.

“He’s an all-around athlete,” Gifford said. “He has the fumble, but one of our mantras is to respond and don’t crack. He responds with the pick six, and that’s just who he is.”

Two minutes later, Hopkins pushed Lingle’s lead to 45 with a 5-yard run, kicking in the running clock for the remainder of the game.

However, the Wolves wasn’t done, placing a well-placed pass over the head of the Dogger defense for the second and final Moorcroft touchdown of the game.

Late in the game, Gifford felt the team got a little lackadaisical.

“We couldn’t get our defense off the field in the third quarter,” he said. “It was frustrating, but overall, the kids played hard. We are getting better. The young guys are buying in, and it’s starting to change the culture around here.”

Hopkins led the Doggers in rushing with 112 yards on 15 attempts, while Bremer added 78 yards on only three carriers. Spears had 61 yards on 14 tries.

Defensively, Bremer and junior Hadley Fleming tallied a team-high eight assisted tackles, while Bremer also had five solo stops to go along with a fumble recovery and an interception. Fleming and freshman Cooper Smith had four solo tackles. Spears had four pass breakups.

“The culture is changing at LFL,” Gifford said. “We have people who are excited to come watch us play football. It hasn’t been that way in recent years. If we can continue this kind of enthusiasm for our school and our community, good things will follow.”

The Doggers (2-4) return to action on Friday on the road against the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media No. 1-ranked Pine Bluffs Hornets (6-0).

“It’s going to be a tough one. We will have a few things up our sleeves,” Gifford said with a smile on his face.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
