High and lifted up

Toby and I love this time of year when we can hear the geese flying over and watch their beautiful Vs flying high up in the sky. We start watching about Thanksgiving time to hear their call to one another and get excited when they finally arrive. They seem to stay in about the same places from year to year and that is where they know there are crops and food for them to eat and they always remember the river, their source of water.

It’s amazing to me how far some of the migratory birds travel each year. The geese seem to remember and tell all their friends where the best places are to stop and rest and find food. They instinctively know where the best route is to get to their winter or summer home. God must have .implanted that in them when they are born, and it’s reinforced as they follow their parents each season I always wonder if I am seeing some of the same geese I saw last year, especially when I see them in the same fields as last year.

During the spring and summer we have several other types of birds migrating and we always have several large bowls of water out for them, so we get to see them close up. They are all so beautiful, and yet so very different. They get water and food from our trees and we always feel we have helped them to be fed and rested and ready for the next leg of their journey.

In the seasons of our adult life we also need to have a place to rest on our journey of life, where we can be refreshed and ready for the next phase of our journey. In my life that place is my Quiet Time corner where I meet with the Lord every day. I sit in Granny Lewis’s old rocker where she used to read her Bible and I read my devotion and a section of my Bible to get my directions that God has planned for my day. I have my bookshelves with reference books to help me understand the parts I don’t understand, and I have my Spiritual Notebook to write down the verses where God stops me to pray about what that verse means to me. I use my Concordance to look up other verses that speak about the same thing I’m reading about so I don’t go off on a tangent about the meaning of one verse.

Those things are all well and good, but the most important thing I have to give me direction is the Holy Spirit. That is the gift I received when I trusted Christ as my Savior. Jesus lived a sinless life on earth, something I could never do, and I could never follow the right path without the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He helps me understand the Scriptures and how to apply them. I can follow the path God laid out for me when I was still in the womb, but only with the help of the Holy Spirit. He keeps me heading in the right direction.

The Bible is my daily nourishment, my daily bread, and it quenches my thirst for the knowledge of Jesus. God can lift me up into the high and lofty places by revealing in His Word His love for me and for you. Then I can soar above my problems and trust that God is leading me in the right direction. My destination is to be together with Him in heaven, and my map for the journey is in His Word, the Bible. I just need to keep following Him through all the “seasons” of my life.

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

Isaiah 40:31”Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
