INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Torrington resident, Fr. Harold Smith, died in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Nov. 2, 2022. He was Rector of All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Torrington from 1991-1995 and directed the College Community Choir and taught philosophy at Eastern Wyoming College during his tenure as Rector.

Fr. Harold, as he was called, was born on February 25, 1935, to Norman H. and Beatrice Neeley Smith in Muncie, Indiana, and was a graduate of Royerton High School, and Ball State University where he received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral degrees. In 1987 he graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky, and was ordained to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church in Neligh, Nebraska, in 1989. He taught music at all levels from 1962-1984 in Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, and Idaho, and was at various times, an avid professional, semi-professional, and amateur photographer.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christine, of Indianapolis, daughter Tammy (Tony) Martin, of Lebanon, Indiana, son Greg of Lexington, Kentucky, two nephews, Jeff (Jill) Moore and John Moore, of Pendleton, Indiana, as well as grandnieces and great grandnieces, also of Indiana.

The family requests that donations be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington, or to the local humane society of your choice. A memorial visitation will be held Monday November 28, 2022 from 1-3 p.m. at Church of the Nativity, 7300 Lantern Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46256.
