Halley, Pierce score wins at Binfield Invite

Halley, Pierce score wins at Binfield Invite

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Junior Reece Halley and senior Cody Pierce finished the day atop the medal stand for the Torrington High School track and field team on a cold and soggy day to begin the 2021 season at the annual Binfield Invite hosted by Scottsbluff High School on Friday afternoon.

Halley paced a trio of Lady Blazer discus throwers with a toss of 91 feet, 5 inches to win the event, while Pierce won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.48 seconds.

THS junior Emma Johnson was second to Halley with a throw of 90-7, and Junior Sierra Allen was third with a distance of 89-8.

Johnson finished seventh in shot put with a distance of 27-9 1/4, and Allen was eighth at 27-7 1/4.

In other field events, sophomore Marissa Moorehouse placed third in the long jump at 14-10 3/4, while junior Allison Brummell was third in the triple jump at 34-3 1/2. Moorehouse finished 11th in the triple jump at 31-1.

Brummell also finished seventh in high jump at 4-10.

In relay action, the Lady Blazer team of Amberly Froerer, Sera Glass, Ada Merrigan and Tyne Stokes finished second in the 4x800-meter relay in 11 minutes, 2.78 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Hailey Boslau, Halley, Mattie Jones and Moorehouse finished second in 4:36.69.

Boslau also finished second in the 200-meter dash in 28.91 seconds, while freshman Alyssa Wondercheck placed seventh in 30.96. Wondercheck also finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 14.53.

In the 400-meter dash, Glass came home third with a time of 1:04.81, while Stokes finished fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:34.39.

In the mile run, Merrigan placed seventh in 6:04.84, while Froerer was 12th in 7:00.08.

In hurdles, Halley finished third in 18.62, and junior Kyndra Wiford was fifth in 57.66 in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the boys’ division, junior Bryant DeMott placed fourth in high jump at 5-4, while Ryan Baker medaled in discus with a toss of 115-8 for a sixth-place finish.

Senior Rave Rising led the Blazers with a throw of 36-8 1/2 to finish 10th in shot put, while junior Benjamin Fuller was 13th in the long jump with a leap of 18-2 1/4.

In the distance events, junior Weston Cronk paced THS with a fifth-place finish in 10:53.95 in the 3,200-meter run, while junior Aydan Loya was seventh in 11:20.52.

Cronk also finished eighth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:06.35, and Loya was 11th in 5:19.66.

In the 800-meter run, senior Timothy Randolph placed 10th in 2:20, while Pierce was seventh in 55.93. Randolph was eighth in 56.01.

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Brendan Flock was sixth in 24.04.

No team standings were available.

Both Blazer teams were scheduled to compete in the Wheatland Invite on Thursday, but Torrington will now host a rescheduled T-Town Qualifier, which was snowed out to begin the season.
