Goshen County hit hard with snow

GOSHEN COUNTY – Wednesday’s snowstorm brought in up to 15 inches of snow in some areas.

In the Torrington area, snowfall reached six to eight inches, with windspeeds of up to 28 mph blowing snow and causing light drifting across roads, sidewalks and residential areas. Southern Goshen County near LaGrange saw anywhere from 12 to 15 inches of snowfall, the National Weather Service in Cheyenne reports.

Blowing and falling snow limited drivers’ visibility all day Wednesday, making for hazardous driving conditions. With temperatures set to warm up over the weekend, meteorologists urge caution when driving through melting snow.

City offices in Torrington along with the Goshen County Courthouse, Eastern Wyoming College and the Goshen County Library all closed early Wednesday because of the weather. Only hearings at the courthouse and a handful of interdepartmental meetings continued as scheduled.

On Thursday, Torrington and Lingle-Fort Laramie schools along with EWC all opened late in the day. Southeast and LaGrange both held virtual snow days for their students. The Torrington city offices remained closed all day Thursday.

US-85 south of Torrington towards Cheyenne also remained closed through most of Wednesday and Friday. Several businesses also closed early due to weather and road conditions.

After temperatures well below freezing on Thursday, Goshen County can look forward to temperatures in the high 40s on Friday with Saturday and Sunday following close behind in the mid to upper 30s. Meteorologists expect little to no new precipitation going into the weekend or into next week.
