TORRINGTON – Junior golfer Gage Gibson won the individual title this weekend at the Torrington High School Invite.

Gibson shot an 81 on day one and a tournament-low 74 on Friday to claim top honors at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course.

His two-day total of 155 was five strokes better than second place’s Keehan Rickett of Buffalo.

“It was exciting to see Gage battle and put together his best round to win the individual championship,” THS coach Jeff Halley said.

Senior Ryder Hackbarth finished 12th with a pair of 89s for a 178. Josh Stitt shot a 188 with two rounds of 94 to finish 19th, while Alex Waring placed 22nd with rounds of 94 and 95 for a 189. Malaki Braddy finished 36th with a 201, firing rounds of 103 and 98.

In the junior varsity ranks, Orion Medina had rounds of 93 and 96 for a 189 to finish 22nd. Mason Wilkes shot a 203 with rounds of 104 and 99 to place 38th. Jakob Lewellen shot a 237 and Boden Barnes shot a 243 to finish 44th and 45th, respectively.

As a team, the Blazers finished fourth with a 710. Kelly Walsh won the team title with a 673, while Douglas was second with a 705. Buffalo was third with a 707.

In the girls’ division, senior Sydney Eaton paced the Lady Blazers with a 215, including rounds of 108 and 107 to finish sixth. Fellow senior Lauren Orr placed 15th with a 118 and 119 for a 237. Kaylee Pittman shot a 255 to finish 21st, shooting rounds of 133 and 122.

In the junior varsity ranks, Madyson Banister finished 22nd with a 257, firing rounds of 128 and 129, while Tilly Fogle finished one spot back with a 273. Madison Copenbarger and Kayleigh Waymire rounded out the JV roster with 282 and 283, respectively, to place 26th and 27th.

The Lady Blazers finished fifth as a team with a 707. Wheatland won the team title with a 569, while Laramie was second with a 636.

“We had a pretty solid tourney and got a lot of kids some experience at a varsity tournament,” Halley said. “We had a lot of kids shoot some of their best scores.”

Torrington will be back in action on Sept. 2-3 at the Buffalo Invite.
