TORRINGTON – According to the City of Torrington website, two City Council seats and the mayor position are open for election. Municipal offices are nonpartisan, and candidates must be a registered voter and resident and having resided in Torrington for at least one year. City employees are not eligible for office and candidates may not hold an office conflicting with the office for which they are filing. Further, a person convicted of a felony may not hold any office of honor.
City Clerk/Treasurer Lynette Strecker confirmed two mayoral candidates thus far – Rick Patterson and Dennis Kelly, who both currently hold seats on City Council. The lone candidate for a Council position is Kate Steinbock who is also currently a member of the Council.
In addition to municipal filings, those interested in filing for county positions must submit paperwork by 5 p.m. Friday, May 27.
