TORRINGTON – It was field event weekend for the Torrington High School track and field teams.

On Thursday, the Blazers and Lady Blazers traveled to Pine Bluffs for the Pine Bluffs Field Event Extravaganza, and on Friday, Torrington hosted the Wiseman Invite which was cut short after the completion of three events due to thunderstorms in the area.

In Pine Bluffs, Ty Bennick paced the Torrington throwers, sweeping shot put and discus.

His throw of 52 feet in shot put won the event by eight feet over second-place finisher and teammate Brayden Frazier. Trey Parriott was fourth. In discus, he topped the field with a toss of 137 feet, 2 inches, beating out Ryan Baker, who finished second at 135-7. Frazier was seventh and Parriott was ninth.

In pole vault, Barrett Eichenberger placed second, clearing 10-6, while Landen Fuller was second in long jump at 18-8.

In the girls’ division, Natalie Long picked up the Lady Blazers’ only win of the day. She cleared 8-6 in pole vault for the victory. In long jump, Trishell Pontarolo finished second in long jump at 14-4.5.

In the throwing events, Teryn Stokes placed fifth in shot put with a throw of 32-11.5. In discus, Wittni Bugher was 11th at 81-8, while Stokes was 12th at 79-10.

The next day, Torrington returned home for the annual Wiseman Invite.

However, the meet was short-lived. Just a little after 2 p.m. lightning put the track meet on hold, and just a little over an hour later, all the head coaches crammed into the press box and made the decision to cancel the remainder of the meet.

Despite the decision, a few of the field events were managed to be complete.

In girls’ long jump, Alyssa Wondercheck placed second with a leap of 17-4.75, finishing one spot a head of teammate Marissa Moorehouse, who placed third at 17-1.

In throwing events, Stokes finished seventh with a toss of 87-4, while Bugher was 16th and Ivy Palfy 25th.

In the only boys’ event which was complete, Bennick was fourth in shot put at 49-11, while Parriott was seventh 44-10.5. Frazier was ninth at 43-9. Brayden Hime didn’t make finals, finishing 23rd with a toss of 32-11.

Torrington heads to Rawlins on Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 for the 3A East Regional Championships. Action gets underway at noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
