TORRINGTON—The Open Barrel Brewery celebrated Mardi Gras on Saturday with specialty drinks, a DJ and costume contest.
Ringing in the holiday, Gypsy LaMore decorated the brewery with purple, green and gold decorations in true Mardi Gras style and brought the Hurricanes from Louisiana – in drink form – to Torrington.
Traditions that started in the New Orleans area are celebrated in a day of drinking, eating and merriment before the upcoming 40 days of Lent.
Following tradition dating back to the beginnings of Mardi Gras, people don masks to attend celebrations regardless of social class as a fun way to add to people’s attire throughout the years.
Guests at the Brewery on Saturday were able to have a night out with the music from Red Devil DJ. Karlyn Najera won the costume contest, taking home a prize of a brand new feather boa.
