CASPER – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers fell behind early on the road Tuesday against Casper College and were unable to regain control, falling 91-73.
Casper rushed out to a 20-13 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, EWC kept the margin tighter, but still were outscored 23-21, going to halftime down 43-34. The Lady Lancers began chipping away at the lead in the third quarter, putting up 22 points to Casper’s 20, but the Lady Thunderbirds slammed the door shut in the fourth, outscoring EWC 28-17 to seal the 91-73 win.
Abril Rexach Roure paced EWC in the scoring department with 16 points. She also led the team with six assists and added three rebounds and a steal to her stat line.
Pamela Bethel recorded yet another double-double, notching 16 points, 11 rebounds, an assist and a team-high three steals. Lauren O’Connell, with 14 points, and Ines Salat Margarit, with 10, rounded out the top scorers for the Lady Lancers the duo combined for five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Macie Mackey, with two points and four rebounds, rounded out the starting five for EWC.
Coming off the bench, Cathlyn Knutson chipped in nine points, a rebound and an assist, while Morning Gambler turned in three points. Emily Buchanan and Nicole Cutler combined for three rebounds, two assists, a steal and the team’s two blocks.
The Lady Lancers shot three percent better from behind the arc and more than 10 percent better from the charity stripe. The Lady Thunderbirds did outrebound EWC, 46-31, and came out on top in the turnover battle, 18-13.
The loss was the second in a row for the Lady Lancers after a six-game winning streak. EWC now sits at 8-6 this season. The Lady Lancers are done for 2017, returning to the hardwood Jan. 5 at home against Trinidad State Junior College, with the tip off slated for 5:30 p.m.
