EWC volleyball opens the season with three wins

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College opened the season with a trio of wins at the two-day SoCo Volleyball Tournament in Trinidad, Colorado.

The Lady Lancers picked up wins over Frank Phillips (Texas) College, Clarendon (Texas) College and Garden City (Kansas) Community College.

On Friday, EWC opened the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of Frank Phillips.

Freshman Mekenna Reinert led the team with eight kills, while sophomores Victoria Anderer and Neza Pec added seven apiece. Sophomore Vanja Tomic tallied 17 assists, while Pec had 13 digs. Anderer recorded six blocks.

That afternoon, the Lady Lancers knocked off Clarendon 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 9-25, 25-19).

Sophomore Alyssa George and Anderer led the EWC attack with 12 kills, while Reinert added eight. Tomic dished out 19 assists, while freshman Halle Hogan added 18.

Defensively, freshman Jelena Jablanov led the team with 11 digs, while George added 10. Anderer tallied six blocks in the match, while Reinert and sophomore Shaelyn Sims added five apiece.

The Lady Lancers wrapped up play on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-19) sweep of Garden City.

Sophomore Neza Pec led the team with 10 kills, while Reinert and George tallied nine apiece. Tomic recorded 17 assists, while Hogan had 13.

Defensively, Pec led the team with 19 digs, while Tomic had 13. Anderer and Tomic had two blocks apiece.

The Lady Lancers (3-0) head to Cheyenne to face Region IX South division foes Northeastern Junior College, the No. 11-ranked team in the NJCAA rankings, on Friday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. and will face Otero Junior College at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28. Both games will be held on the campus of Laramie County Community College.
