TORRINGTON – The loss to Western Nebraska Community College last week left a bad taste in the mouth of the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers.

On Tuesday evening, they took it out on the Air Force Prep Falcons to the tune of a 101-65 victory behind a strong performance on the defensive side of the floor.

“I think they were hungry to get back out there,” EWC head coach Tom Andersen said. “It’s never good to sit around after you lose, so it was good to get another game in. We’ve got a couple tough ones coming up and we’ll just keep trying to get better.”

The Lady Lancers forced 20 turnovers which resulted in some easy points on the other end of the floor.

“For the most part, especially on the perimeter, we played pretty good defense,” Andersen said. “We got some steals in the full court that led to some easy baskets. Inside wasn’t quite as good, they’ve got a couple pretty strong kids inside that scored on us. But we got out and ran on some breaks and that’s what we like to do. “

EWC raced out to an 11-0 lead over the first four minutes of the game, but Air Force Prep wasn’t going to go away.

By the end of the first quarter, the visitors had trimmed the deficit to 15-10, but in the second quarter, the Lady Lancers turned up the pressure.

Over the final 10 minutes of the first half, EWC outscored Air Force Prep 33-16, pushing the lead to 48-26 by the half.

The Lady Lancer kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half.

“We tried to get some better shots,” Andersen said. “Not quite so quick off the break if we didn’t have a layup, to have a little patience and get a better shot. I think we did that a little better in the second half and got some better opportunities.”

EWC had four players in double figures, led by freshman Nicole Cutler and sophomore Emily Buchanan with 20 apiece. Sophomore Ines Salat Margarit added 13 and freshman Barbara Trehub 11. Every player on the Lady Lancer roster scored at least three points in the win, shooting 54.3 percent from the floor.

EWC (10-1) travels to McCook (Neb.) Community College (9-3) on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. contest and North Platte (Neb.) Community College (2-8) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
