TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancers were held to 18 percent from behind the arc, while Air Force Prep knocked down 44 percent from three-point land in a 92-78 Lancer loss on Saturday.
Both teams opened the game neck and neck, with a bucket by Brandon Meadows tying the game at 19 with 11:45 left in the first. Air Force went on a run to take a 29-21 lead but a basket by Jonathan Morrobel tied the game at 31. At the break, the visitors had a 38-33 lead.
Rhyhm Ajanku tied the game at 38 with free throws less than a minute into the second half. He hit a two on the next possession to give the Lancers a 40-38 lead. The lead changed hands nine times until Air Force Prep made a run, taking a 62-54 lead. The visitors continued to build on their lead to seal the 14-point win.
Morrobel tied for the team lead with 13 points and he matched the team lead in boards, with seven. He also had three blocks. Walker Korell tied Morrobel with 13 points, including six from behind the arc. He filled his stat line with six rebounds, an assist, a block and two steals.
Ajanku racked up 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Meadows chipped in 11 points, three rebounds, an assist and two steals. Alek Cosic rounded out the Lancers in double-figures, piling up 10 points, seven boards, two assists and a block.
Nick Holmes came off the bench and poured in nine points, an assist and a steal. Jordan Mirich and Trey Schroefel rounded out the scoring, combining for 10 points, two rebounds and Schroefel notched three assists and three steals.
EWC shot 42 percent from the floor, but only 18 percent from three-points land (6-of-33). Air Force Prep knocked down 50 percent of their shots and 44 percent from deep (11-of-25).
EWC dropped to 1-20 on the season. The Lancers return to action at home Saturday in a home contest against rival Western Nebraska Community College. The tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
