LA JUNTA, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team are on a roll and have captured the championship title at their fifth golf tournament this fall season, topping the tournament hosted by Otero Junior College with a score of 563. McCook Community College was second with a score of 582.
Harry Walch, Staines, England, won the tournament with rounds of 70 and 65 for a weekend total of 135.
“Harry told me before the round started on Friday that he felt he would need to shoot several under to get a win and that is exactly what he did,” EWC coach Zack Smith. “He shot a 65, with birdies on the last four holes. I was very excited to see him get the individual win.”
Other Lancer scores were as follows: Mason Hale, freshman, Atkinson, NE, 71, 71 - 142, tied for third; Gonzalo Arcelay, sophomore, Munguia, Spain, 72, 70 - 142, tied third; Eric Stevens, freshman, Bridgeport, NE, 71, 72 - 143, seventh; George Elliott, sophomore, Salisbury, England, 73, 71 - 144, tied for eighth; Jo Vin Tan, freshman, Taiping, Malaysia, 77, 76 - 153, 22nd.
“Several of the teams played very well on day one, which left us trailing by four strokes headed into day two,” Smith said. “It was tough to feel disappointed by that because there was just some really good golf played down there. Fortunately, the team showed their determination and resiliency and were able to play great on Friday to come away with the win.”
The Lancers will conclude their fall season in Lamar, Colo. on Oct. 11-12.
