GREENFIELD, Iowa – Evelyn M. Gibbs, 71, partner of Gibbs Cattle Company in Harrison, Neb., and current resident of Greenfield, Iowa, passed away Dec. 21, 2017. She was born Jan. 13, 1946 to Merrill and Gladys Nichols. She attended Prussia #5 and Bridgewater-Fontanelle schools and graduated Salutorian of the Class of 1964. She attended Iowa State for two years, then paused her education to marry George (Lans) Gibbs in 1966. Evelyn finished her business management degree at Simpson College, graduating Summa cum Laude in 1986. After graduating, Evelyn began working at Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa where she was ultimately promoted to Deputy Executive Director.
Evelyn was involved in many activities. She was a 4-H member, then a 4-H leader, then Adair Co. 4-H Aide. She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club and PEO, Chapter CA. She was a 50-year member of OES as well as serving as Worthy Matron. She also served on the boards of the FSA-USDA and the Creston AEA. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and candy-making.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Merrill and Gladys Nichols; brother Lee Nichols; brother-in-law Arthur Hill; and niece Gwen Heath.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, George (Lans) Gibbs; daughters Ann Duncan-Gibbs and Jill Gibbs and son-in-law Shan Duncan; brother J. David Nichols; sister Edythe Hill; sisters-in-law Phyllis Nichols and Lilian Nichols; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church, Greenfield, Iowa. Luncheon with the family will follow.
