TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Elmer Schaffer, 89, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at the Hawk Springs Community Building. Elmer died peacefully at his home on Dec. 22, 2022. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Hawk Springs Fire Department or the Hawk Springs Church. Elmer was born April 24, 1933 in Bayard, Nebraska the son of Davit and Olga Schaffer. He was the sixth of ten children. He married Naomi Shannon on Feb. 7, 1960. They moved to their farm near Hawk Springs, Wyoming in 1967. They had five children. Elmer worked hard on the farm and enjoyed fishing, hunting, drawing, and wood burning in his spare time. He was a member of the Hawk Springs Fire Department for 38 years.
Elmer is survived by his wife Naomi; son Michael (Lori) of Torrington; daughter Lisa of Nevada; son Dale of Arizona; daughter Deena of Hawk Springs; and son Bruce of Cheyenne; five grandchildren Chris (Miranda) Hill of Torrington, Heath (Chae’Lee) Hill of Torrington, Brittany (Tyler) Cearns of Torrington, Brooke Peterson of Torrington and Taylor Schaffer of Cheyenne; three great grandchildren; four sisters Elsie Greathouse of Indiana, Esther (Jerry) Haumont of Nebraska, Gloria (Henry) Reichert of Torrington and Jeannie (Ronald) DeCora of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and one sister.
