Donita Rose McCoy

TORRINGTON – It is with great sadness that the family of Donita Rose McCoy announces her passing.

Donita was born in Torrington and grew up in Wyoming. Her life was defined by her caring nature and strong work ethic. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 32 years, Earl; and they would often be seen dancing in the kitchen together to old country music. Donita was the greatest mom ever to her children, Miranda and Tyrel, and a superhero to her grandchildren.

Her strong work ethic coupled with her big heart made Donita a woman who knew what it meant to lead by example – to pursue the greatest good. She was a fixture in the community, and was extremely proud of her work at THS, as a paraprofessional, helping kids.

Donita was driven towards adventures, travel, and connection to what she valued most in the world, her family. Her laughter and smile could brighten any room; and playing family games of Nerts, Cribbage, and Wahoo brought good-natured, intense competition that she enjoyed.

Donita is preceded in death by her fathers, Willis Werger and Henry Martinez; her best friend, Sandy Woodruff; and is survived by her mother, Thelma Hackleman; her sister, Laura Schamel; her brother, Henry Martinez; her husband, Earl McCoy; her daughter, Miranda Resig; her son, Tyrel McCoy; and her grandchildren, Collin, Jake, Briden, and Camden.

Her legacy has been written across the stars of heaven and in the hearts and minds of those that knew her well. She will forever be remembered and honored by her family, friends, and with everyone she knew. The most amazing wife, mom, sister, grandmother, friend, daughter, and a truly inspiring American woman we will always love. She will be missed.

The family invites you to attend a Celebration of Life for Donita, at the Torrington VFW, this coming Saturday – November 6 – at 1 p.m..
