LUSK – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School wrestling team finished fifth at the season-opening Tiger Invitational on Friday, Dec. 13 in Lusk.
The Doggers had three wrestlers reach the championship matches of their respective weight brackets, led by senior Joel Costello who won the 106-pound division.
Costello picked up four falls en route to the championship bout before defeating Blake Durfee of Newcastle/Upton in an 8-3 decision.
Senior Zane Rising (160 pounds) and junior Jessy Valentine (220) reached the championship bouts, only to come up short.
Rising won four matches, including two by fall and two by decision before falling to Minatare’s Haydon Olds by a 6-2 decision in the final match of the day, while Valentine pinned his way to the championship before being pinned by Niobrara County’s Dmitri Richards.
L-FL had a trio of wrestlers – Jaden Houk (120), Landon Norris (220) and Kayden Sims (285) – reach the third-place match before suffering losses to end the day.
Ty Prall (132), Remington Bremer (120), Hadley Fleming (132), Gage Gibson (152) and Corey Ducheneaux (152) also picked up wins for the Doggers.
As a team, the Doggers scored 133 points, while Moorcroft won the team title with 264.5 points. Newcastle/Upton was second with 216, while Southeast was third with 166.
Lingle travels to Hot Springs, S.D. for the Holiday Extravaganza on Saturday, Dec. 21.
