Doggers drop two, ending season

DOUGLAS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers fell in back-to-back games at the 2A East Regional Tournament in Douglas over the weekend, ending their season.

Hulett 72, L-FL 61

The Doggers’ first matchup came against second-seed Hulett. The Red Devils came out hot, taking a 24-13 lead after the first frame. L-FL cut into that lead by one point, heading into halftime down 38-28. Hulett outscored the Doggers 13-11 in the third quarter to take a 51-39 lead into the final frame and the Red Devils held on for the win.

Caeden Riley had the hot shooting hand Thursday, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor, including two three-pointers, along with 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line, finishing the night with 20 points and three rebounds.

Mason McFadden turned in 10 points, eight rebounds, six of which were offensive, two assists and a steal. Brandon Hill rounded out the top scorers for L-FL with six points and two rebounds.

Rhett Greenwald, Cooper Hill and Gage Correa all had five points on the night. Greenwald had an assist and paced L-FL with 11 rebounds, while Correa chipped in a board and a dime. Hill finished the night with a rebound, an assist and two steals.

Scott Gilchriest and Cordell Forkner both notched four points in the loss, while combining for five rebounds. Gilchriest led the Doggers with three assists and four steals. Hayden Hill rounded out the scoring with two points, a rebound and a steal.

NSI 53, L-FL 48

The loss Thursday dropped the Doggers to the lower bracket in the regional bracket, where they squared off against Normative Services Institute.

L-FL came out with a solid first half. A three-pointer off the bank by Gilchriest at the end of the first quarter gave the Doggers an 11-10 lead. L-FL piled up 21 points in the second quarter to hold a 32-22 lead at the break, but the Wolves mounted a comeback. They stormed back to take a 41-40 lead by the end of the third quarter. The Doggers were behind 50-48 with just under two minutes to go, but NSI closed the door on the game.

Brandon Hill stepped up as the top scorer for L-FL, recording a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Four of his rebounds came off the offensive glass.

Gilchriest and Riley both had nine points in the game, with both knocking down a three-pointer. They each had four rebounds and a steal apiece, while Riley led the Doggers with four assists. Greenwald turned in eight points, six rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Forkner contributed four points, three rebounds and two assists. McFadden and Cooper Hill rounded out the scoring with two points apiece, combining for six rebounds, an assist and two steals.
