GOSHEN COUNTY – Goshen County School District No. 1 now requires pre-employment physical assessment testing, following a second and final reading at the board of trustees meeting last week.

Policy 4210.1 “ensure(s) the prospective employee (an individual to whom a contingent job offer has been made) possesses the physical capabilities necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the job,” according to official
documents.

In addition, it is hoped the policy will reduce the risk of work-related injuries.

“Offers of employment for jobs in classifications subject to this policy are contingent upon the prospective employee’s successful completion of a physical assessment specific to the job and based upon industry standards of performance,” it reads.

GCSD No. 1 will pay for the test, which must be completed prior to the prospective employee’s first day of work.

Permanent employees, including bus drivers, cooks, custodians, paraprofessionals and substitute bus drivers are also subject to
the testing.

“Existing employees or substitutes seeking a transfer into a subject job classification with a higher level of physical demands than their current job may be subject to this testing,” the document states.

The policy was originally reviewed on Oct. 3, with an introduction and first reading Oct. 10.

It passed second and final reading unanimously on Nov. 14.
