Diamond Hunting 101

Posted

Forty-three years since the adventure began! I, Peg, the daughter of a Massey Ferguson parts man, who lived her whole life a block from Main Street, married Greg, a fourth-generation rancher from Prairie Center. One knowing nothing about agriculture and the other having been born into it! Let the adventure begin!

I went from living a block off of Main Street, to our home 25 miles North of Torrington. I lived in a home with a revolving door, people coming and going continually, to a quiet life on the prairie. A life where I could look out the window and see people and activity, to seeing the wide-open spaces of Prairie Center. I married the love of my life, but at the same time felt like I had died and NOT gone to heaven.

My entry into ranching was a bit rocky, but God in his infinite wisdom allowed us to have children quickly. Thirteen months apart they did arrive. I was now too busy to worry about this foreign land we called home. Even though I loved my children, and adored my husband, my attitude was one of discontent and crabbiness. Not becoming of a wife and mother.

Several years into our marriage we were gathering cattle on a very chilly fall morning. It was dark as we started. I was headed in with my bunch of cattle when the sun started to come up. I don’t know if you have ever seen a pasture when the dew is on the grass and the sun starts to come up, but it shimmers, just like diamonds. It was that day that God got ahold of my heart and opened my eyes to the diamonds that were and had been around me.

He said, “Look Peg, they have been here all along and you have been missing them.” God changed me that day. A diamond hunter I have become. Some diamonds are laying on top of the ground for us to trip over like a gift under the Christmas tree. Some diamonds I have to dig deeper for. They are God given, always to be found. One thing I have learned since becoming a diamond hunter, life IS hard, BUT (and it is a big but) God is incredibly good!

Isaiah 41:13: For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

He sent diamonds. Happy Hunting.
