Defense propels Southeast girls

GLENROCK – The Southeast Lady Cyclones secured a big 2A Southeast conference win on the road by limiting the Glenrock Lady Herders to 12 points in a 40-12 win.

Southeast had a solid start to the game, growing a 13-2 lead after the first frame. By halftime, the Lady Cyclones were the owners of a 19-6 lead. In the third quarter, Southeast exploded for 15 points, while limiting the Lady Herders to another two points to up their lead to 34-8. In the fourth, the visitors outscored Glenrock 6-4 to seal the win.

Ellie Schmitt was the top scorer for the Lady Cyclones, pouring in 10 points to go with her six rebounds, five of which were offensive, and three assists, all of which were team-highs.

Kaci Schmick stepped up in the scoring column with seven points, while Josie Anderson tallied four rebounds. Whitney Foos paced Southeast with three steals.

Southeast now sits 8-6, with a 2-1 conference record. It ranks third in the conference behind Pine Bluffs (11-4, 3-0) and Lusk (13-2, 3-1). The Lady Cyclones take on rival Lingle-Fort Laramie on Thursday at Eastern Wyoming College with a 6 p.m. tipoff. On Friday, Southeast hits the road to take on the Lady Hornets at 4:30 p.m.
