Cyclone trio wins Dogger Invite titles

LINGLE – Southeast High School wrestlers Wyatt Mackey, Greg Logsdon and Will Baker topped their respective weight brackets at the Dogger Invite on Saturday in Lingle.

The trio were a part of five Cyclone grapplers to place at day-long tournament.

Mackey opened the day with a 14-0 major decision victory at 132 pounds before scoring a pin in the semifinal round. In the championship, Mackey defeated Kelly Walsh’s Jessie Smith, 6-2.

At 138 pounds, Greg Logsdon went 4-0 with four fall victories en route to the championship.

Logsdon defeated four Class 4A wrestlers, including a pair from Kelly Walsh in the semifinal and championship rounds.

Also, at 138 pounds, Ryan Clapper finished fifth. He reached the semifinal round before suffering his first loss of the day. Clapper was pinned in consolation semifinal but scored a no contest victory over Ted Bertogli of Cheyenne East in the fifth-place match.

In the 285-pound bracket, Will Baker went 3-0 with three pins. Baker defeated Kayden Sims of Lingle-Fort Laramie, Tucker Hixon of Gering, Neb., and Tony Gonzales of Minatare, Neb.

At 195 pounds, Tate Carson finished third.

Carson rattled off two pins before being pinned in the semifinal round in his only loss of the day. Carson scored a fall win over Trey Bower of Cheyenne East to reach the third-place match before settling on a no contest win over Bryer Benham of Kelly Walsh to end the day.

As a team, the Cyclones finished fifth with 93 points. Cheyenne East JV won the team title with 239 points, while Kelly Walsh JV was second with 199.

Southeast travels to Riverton for the annual Ron Thon Invite on Friday and Saturday.
