TORRINGTON – The Community Education department at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington has announced several upcoming classes for the start of the new year.

History of the Protestant Reformation and Christianity
Nate Johnson, pastor of Christ Reformed Presbyterian Church in Torrington, will discuss the 1517 division of the Roman Catholic Church in the course. 2017 marked the 500th anniversary of the divide, known as the Protestant Reformation.
Topics will include a list of questions whom and how to trust, the authority of scripture and more. The class will center around the beliefs which caused the protests that became the Reformation and how the faithful sought to accomplish the reform.
History of the Protestant Reformation and Christianity will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m., beginning Jan. 23 and running through March 27. Cost for the class is $40, but scholarships may be available by contacting Johnson at (720) 314-9930.

Workin’ in the Wood

Torrington High School wood and welding technology instructor Charles Richter will lead a class for new and seasoned woodworkers.
Workin’ in the Wood will feature several project plans to choose from, or participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas. The first class will cover safety, equipment and project selection. During the course, participants will get the opportunity to try a variety of woodworking tools and equipment.
Workin’ in the Wood will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 23 and running through Feb. 27. Cost is $150 and participants are responsible for purchasing their own wood and other supplies for projects.
 
Crazy for Cribbage
A 400+ year old card game
This class is for everyone and especially for non-players wanting to learn the game. Cribbage is a great card game for all ages – playing Cribbage helps children develop skills in math, critical thinking, and cooperative learning – for adults, playing Cribbage keeps the mind alert and is an opportunity for socializing with others.
Classes will be held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from January through May from 6 to 8 pm. The cost is $5 per session.
 
Bunco
Bunco is a fast-paced, progressive, two-team, social dice game that is perfect for everyone in the family. It takes no skill and is 100% luck. Bunco dates back to the late 1800’s and was especially popular during Prohibition in the 1920’s. It is estimated that in excess of 50 million people world-wide play Bunco on a regular basis and is considered the old-fashioned game of the future.
This class will be held the second Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and the fourth Wednesday afternoon of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. The cost is $5 per session.
