GoCo Historical Society
TORRINGTON – Goshen County Historical Society meets the fourth Tuesday of the month, September through May, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Community Room of the Platte Valley Bank branch office, 2201 Main St. in Torrington.
Officers for the Historic Society are President Mary Houser, Vice-president Russell Zimmer, Treasurer Ross Burmaster and secretary Jennifer Lanier. The group’s Board of Directors are Chuck Coleman, Pat Ellis, Don Hodgson, George Zeimens and Vickie Zimmer.

Goshen County Democrats
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Democratic Party invites and welcomes interested county residents to their monthly meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, 6 p.m. at the Goshen County Library Annex, 2017 East A St. in Torrington.

Overeaters Anonymous
TORRINGTON – The Torrington chapter of Overeaters Anonymous hosts two meetings Tuesdays locally. The organization is a 12-step group designed to help stop compulsive eating and food behaviors while working toward attaining and maintaining healthy body weight.

Discussion group invites public
TORRINGTON – The Political Discussion Group of the Goshen County Democratic Women invites interested area women to a series of round-table meetings.
GCDW has organized the sessions to discuss local, state and national issues. Beginning Jan. 17, the group plans to meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month, with some exceptions for intervening holidays, at 10 a.m. at the
Library Annex.

Goshen County Kiwanis
TORRINGTON – Kiwanis of Goshen County holds meetings the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at the Loft inside the 21st and Main Street building in Torrington. Digital camera basics class
TORRINGTON – The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is now accepting enrollments for a basic overview of digital cameras.
What are all those buttons? will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25. Cost for the class is $25.
Students should bring a digital camera. EWC Instructor Andy Espinoza will guide you through all the various settings, menus, and features of your camera.
Class discussion will include basic concepts such as shutter speed, aperture openings, flash vs natural lighting, macro (close-up), image resolution, manual focus, and depth of field.

Vet Tech club holding dog wash
TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Veterinary Technology Club will be holding a dog wash on Saturday, Jan. 27. Appointments will begin at 8 a.m. and walk-ins will be taken until 10:30 a.m. The dog wash will conclude at 1:30 p.m. The student technicians will do minimal brushing and do not shave out mats. A current rabies certificate is required to participate.
Pricing per dog is as follows:

Small Dog (0-20#) $8
Medium Dog (20.1-50#) $10
Large Dog (50.1 – 90#) $12
Extra Large Dog (90.1 and above) $14

EWC host financial health workshop
TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College here will host a nine-week workshop designed to assist families striving for financial health.
Originally scheduled to start Jan. 10, due to personal issues with the instructor, the workshop – Financial Peace University – has been postponed, said Donna White, associate director for workforce development and community education for the college. The course is now set for 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in CTEC Room 133 on the campus in Torrington.

Labor history topic of program
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Library, in conjunction with the Homesteaders Museum and the Wyoming Humanities Council, will host a presentation on the progressive labor history of the state.
Samuel Western, a teacher and author, will present “For the Good of Society at Large,” at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Goshen County Library Activities Center in Torrington. The presentation accompanies the upcoming Smithsonian traveling exhibition, “The Way We Worked,” opening Jan. 27 and running through March 18 at the Homesteader Museum on South Main Street in Torrington.
Western is currently teaching a class, titled, “New Wyoming Narratives: What Do We Want?” at the University of Wyoming.
“The Way We Worked” exhibition is part of the Museum on Main Street program, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, state humanities councils and local hosts. The exhibit traces changes that have affected the workforce and work environment in the United States over the past 150 years, drawing from the National Archives and Records Administration collections of photographs, archival accounts of workers, film, audio and more.

History, information programs set
GOSHEN COUNTY – The Goshen County Historical Society and the Western History Center in Lingle have scheduled two programs for later this month.
The first, “Trading Posts Along the Platte,” is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Platte Valley Bank Community Room in Torrington. George Zeimens, executive director of the Western History Center, will talk about trade along the Platte River.
Then, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, Amanda Gibbs, director of the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering, Neb., will present a program featuring historic information about the North Platte and the museum. The program will be hosted at the Western History Center, located five miles west of Lingle on U.S. Hwy. 26.

Right to Life Breakfast set
TORRINGTON – The St. Rose Parish Knights of Columbus in Torrington will host its annual Soufflé breakfast to support Goshen County Right to Life.
The breakfast will be held in the St. Rose Parish Social Hall, 605 E 22nd Ave., in Torrington, from 8 a.m. till noon, Sunday, Jan. 28. Tickets will be available at the door, or by calling

First-grade musical
TORRINGTON – The first-grade students of Lincoln Elementary invite you to the musical “The Bear Went Over the Mountain” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Torrington High School auditorium. Join “Da Bear” and lots of forest critters as they learn that life is often more about the journey than the destination.

Soup supper, auction set
TORRINGTON – Valley Christian School in Torrington will host its annual Soup Supper and Auction fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Rendezvous Center at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.
Event tickets are $5 per person with children three years and younger admitted free.
The event features both live and silent auctions. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for the silent auction. Live auction begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be a raffle, with tickets sold separately, for a $750 Main Street Market shopping spree.
 
Food distribution set
TORRINGTON – Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies will bring its mobile food pantry to the Ford Pavilion at the Goshen County Fairgrounds next month.
Hosted by the Goshen County Ministerial Association, the distribution event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. The time change is to better accommodate working individuals and families in need of food assistance.
The Ministerial Association is currently seeking volunteers, as well as monetary donations to assist in covering the approximately $2,000 cost of each food bank event. Volunteers and donations are sought for the February event, as well as for regular monthly events in March, April and May.
Individuals wishing to volunteer are asked to arrive at the Pavilion no later than 5 p.m. to assist in setting up. For additional information, call
