County Republicans to meet
TORRINGTON – The Central Committee of the Goshen County Republican Party will host its regular meeting next week.
Precinct training is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with the regular meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the Community Room at Platte Valley Bank, 2201 Main St, in Torrington.

Digital camera basics class
TORRINGTON – The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is now accepting enrollments for a basic overview of digital cameras.
What are all those buttons? will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25. Cost for the class is $25.
Students should bring a digital camera. EWC Instructor Andy Espinoza will guide you through all the various settings, menus, and features of your camera.
Class discussion will include basic concepts such as shutter speed, aperture openings, flash vs natural lighting, macro (close-up), image resolution, manual focus, and depth of field.

EWC host financial health workshop
TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College here will host a nine-week workshop designed to assist families striving for financial health.
Originally scheduled to start Jan. 10, due to personal issues with the instructor, the workshop – Financial Peace University – has been postponed, said Donna White, associate director for workforce development and community education for the college. The course is now set for 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in CTEC Room 133 on the campus in Torrington.

Candlelight vigil announced

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Right to Life group will host its annual candlelight vigil at the corner of highways 26 and 85, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in Torrington.
The group invites interested individuals to “stand for life and join us for one hour to stand against abortion,” according to a press release.

History, information programs set
GOSHEN COUNTY – The Goshen County Historical Society and the Western History Center in Lingle have scheduled two programs for later this month.
The first, Trading Posts Along the Platte, is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Platte Valley Bank Community Room in Torrington. George Zeimens, executive director of the Western History Center, will talk about trade along the Platte River.
Then, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, Amanda Gibbs, director of the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering, Neb., will present a program featuring historic information about the North Platte and the museum. The program will be hosted at the Western History Center, located five miles west of Lingle on U.S. Hwy. 26.

Evanston hosting second-annual Wyo-Utah Ag Days
EVANSTON – Topics ranging from the cattle market outlook to sage grouse and deworming sheep are among topics at Wyoming-Utah Ag Days, Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 23-24, in Evanston.
Sessions are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day at the Evanston Roundhouse, 1500 Main St., said Bridger Feuz, University of Wyoming Extension educator. Lunch is served each day if participants RSVP before 9 a.m. Jan. 22.
This is the second year for the program.
 “The workshops are full of powerful presenters and timely and relevant topics,” said Feuz.
Opening day topics include irrigation of forages, why grow relationships with the next generation, cattle market outlook, raising backyard chickens, rancher rules of thumb, backyard livestock production, winter livestock feeding and irrigated alfalfa variety performance.
Day two topics are weed identification and control, sage grouse and grazing, quantifying deworming in Wyoming sheep, litigation between the Western Watersheds Project and federal land management agencies, landscape-based riparian grazing, beekeeping 101, modern meat cuts (hands-on demonstration) and a question-and-answer session about meat and meat cutting.
Feuz said Cat Urbigkit, co-owner and editor of The Shepherd magazine, will speak about guardian dog use in large carnivore country during her keynote during lunch Tuesday. Urbigkit owns a western Wyoming sheep and cattle ranch. Feuz said she raises working livestock guardian dogs and travels the globe learning about guardian dog use in large carnivore country.
 “People can come for the whole time on both days or pick and choose individual topics they wish to attend,” said Feuz.

Right to Life Breakfast set
TORRINGTON – The St. Rose Parish Knights of Columbus in Torrington will host its annual Soufflé breakfast to support Goshen County Right to Life.
The breakfast will be held in the St. Rose Parish Social Hall, 605 E 22nd Ave., in Torrington, from 8 a.m. till noon, Sunday, Jan. 28. Tickets will be available at the door, or by calling (307) 532-4594.
Goshen County Right to Life meets at 7 p.m., every third Monday, in the Brand Room at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.
 
Food distribution set
TORRINGTON – Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies will bring its mobile food pantry to the Ford Pavilion at the Goshen County Fairgrounds next month.
Hosted by the Goshen County Ministerial Association, the distribution event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5. The time change is to better accommodate working individuals and families in need of food assistance.
The Ministerial Association is currently seeking volunteers, as well as monetary donations to assist in covering the approximately $2,000 cost of each food bank event. Volunteers and donations are sought for the February event, as well as for regular monthly events in March, April and May.
Individuals wishing to volunteer are asked to arrive at the Pavilion no later than 5 p.m. to assist in setting up. For additional information, call (307) 532-2977.
