USAF Offutt Brass band to perform

TORRINGTON – Offutt Brass, the brass ensemble from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band, will perform at the Eastern Wyoming College Performing Arts Center, 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7.

The six-member ensemble, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, is comprised of two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba and percussion.  With a wide musical variety of classical, jazz, popular, and patriotic favorites, Offutt Brass showcases the Air Force’s excellence, precision and innovation in every performance. These talented musicians proudly represent the more than 313,000 Air Force professionals around the world who relentlessly protect and defend the freedoms we cherish.

The concert is free and open to the public.

NHS garage sale Saturday

TORRINGTON – The National Honor Society will host a garage sale from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Torrington High School.

Fundraising carnival

TORRINGTON – Stacey Houk Family Enrichment Center of Torrington is organizing a carnival to raise funds and awareness for glycogen storage disease.

The carnival is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Rendezvous Center on the Goshen County Fairgrounds here. Featured entertainment for the afternoon will be DJ Freddie Marquez.

The carnival will also feature games, food and a silent auction. All proceeds will go to Salem’s Fund to be given back to the community and to help family members who are affected with GSD.

Smart Driver course offered

TORRINGTON – The AARP of Goshen County will host a second Smart Driver Course class during April.

The Senior Friendship Center in Torrington will host the courses, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25. Smart Driver is a refresher course specifically targeted to drivers 50 years of age and older.

Cost for either course day is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Call Susan at the Senior Friendship Center for more information or to register at (307) 532-2796.

First aid classes offered

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Workforce Development office will offer a combined CPR/first aid class from 5 – 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.

In addition to basic first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training, the class will cover use of the automated external defibrillator and Basic Life Support training for emergency situations. Cost for the class is $60 for the CPR/First Aid/AED training and $55 for Basic Life Support instruction.

Meier, Steinmetz to speak

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Republican Women’s group will host a luncheon meeting, set for 12 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Deacon’s Restaurant in Torrington.

Special guests of the group will be State Sen. Curt Meier and State Rep. Cheri Steinmetz, who will be reviewing highlights and changes from the recently-concluded legislative session.

Movies for Grown-ups

TORRINGTON – The Community Action Group, part of AARP of Goshen County, will host the next in its series, entitled Movies for Grown-Ups, at 12:45 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Senior Friendship Center Activity Room in Torrington.

This month’s movie will be Hidden Figures. Nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress and Best Writing Adapted Screen Play, the film tells the story of a group of African-American women mathematicians who served as “the brains behind one of the greatest operations in human history,” as NASA prepared to send the first American into orbit around the Earth, according to a release on the series.

Movies for Grown-Ups, a part of the national AARP programs, is presented free and is open to the public. The afternoon includes free popcorn and movie snacks. For more information, contact the Torrington Senior Center at (307) 532-2796.

Gear Up Color Run announced

TORRINGTON – The Gear Up club at Eastern Wyoming College will again host a 5K Color Run for the community.

This year’s run is set to kick off at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 28. Runners are asked to meet at the CTEC Building on the EWC campus in Torrington. 

Entrance fees are $20 for individual runners and $40 for teams of as many as three runners. Teams with four or more runners can register for $60, with a $5 per person surcharge for each runner on teams of five or more. Registration forms are available at the EWC information center, the Gear Up office or at the campus Fitness Center.

Sponsorship proceeds will go toward funding scholarships for Gear Up students attending EWC.

Art open house

TORRINGTON – The Charcoal and Quill Guild will host an open house and art show from 6 – 7 p.m. April 30 at the Goshen County Public Library.

Charcoal and Quill Guild is a group of young artists working in a variety of media, from drawing and painting
to writing. 

Benefit dinner

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Elks Lodge will host a benefit enchilada dinner next month for a local man battling cancer.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door for the Jack Bower Cancer Fund benefit, scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the lodge in Torrington. The event will also feature a silent auction as well as a “gift card table” for
the fund.

Torrington Alumni reunions weekend

TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School Trailblazer Alumni Reunion is scheduled for June 1-3.

All alumni and friends are invited to attend lunch, banquet and brunch that weekend. This reunion includes classes from 1938 - 1968. Registrations are due by May 10. THS classes of 1963 and 1964 will host their reunion at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at the Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington. Cost is $20 for singles and $40 per couple, with a cash bar provided.

Bake-sale fundraiser 

TORRINGTON – Journey Church will host the first in a series of bake sales in front of the Pinnacle Bank downtown to raise funds to send children from the church to
summer camp.

The sales are set for Saturday, May 12 and May 19. Sales will go on until 1 p.m., or all the goodies are sold.

The bake sales will be cancelled in case of rain or a hard snow.

Democratic Convention set

TORRINGTON – Goshen County Democrats will host their regular County Convention, set for May 19, in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the campus of Eastern Wyoming
College here.

Registration is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with a regular business meeting set to immediately follow. Residency in Goshen County is required to be a voting member of the convention. Voting delegates must also be a registered Democrat at least 15 days prior to the convention, by May 3.

The convention agenda includes election of State Convention delegates, adoption of the county platform and resolutions, election or appointment of precinct committee members and introduction of discussion of candidates for the 2018 election. The Wyoming State Democratic Convention is scheduled for June 9 at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.

“Important issues locally, statewide and nationally affect all,” party vice-chair Dorothy Schild wrote in a press release. “Democracy is being challenged and it is our obligation as citizens to protect and preserve it.”

Goshen County Democrats invite all interested parties to attend the
convention.
