CHEYENNE – Ed Buchanan of Lingle has been appointed the next Wyoming Secretary of State.
Buchanan was selected from three candidates chosen by the Wyoming Republican Central Committee during its meeting Feb. 24 in Cheyenne. The candidates were interviewed by Gov. Matt Mead on Tuesday.
“I was particularly impressed that Ed ran for this office in the last election,” Mead said in a press release Thursday. “He understands state government, having served in the legislature. Ed is committed to Wyoming and to the responsibilities of the office.”
Mead also noted Buchanan’s military service, his work as an attorney and prosecutor, as well as his having served two years as Speaker of the House during his legislative term.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected for this office by the Central Committee and Gov. Mead,” Buchanan was quoted in the release. “I pledge my best efforts to the state of Wyoming and her citizens. I am blessed and honored to serve.”
Buchanan will serve the remaining 10 months of the four-year term vacated Feb. 9 by the resignation of former Secretary of State Ed Murray.
