Blazers place 41 times at Twilight

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Twenty-two Torrington Lady Trailblazers and 19 Blazer boys placed in the top-eight at the Twilight Invitational on Thursday in Scottsbluff, with the girls placing third and boys taking fifth.

Nakalyn Garner she snagged a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 10 inches, a new school record. She tied the school record last week with a 9-foot, 6-inch effort, but was able to surpass that mark in Scottsbluff.

Sera Glass was the top Lady Blazer on Thursday, picking up multiple first-place finishes. She won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.00, along with the top spot in the 3200 with a time of 13:12.53. Glass rounded out her day with a time of 6:18.72 in the 1600 to finish fourth.

Adia Sherbeyn joined Glass in the 800, earning seventh with a time of 2:45.94. Brittany Schlager also ran in both the mile and two-mile, along with Glass. She finished sixth in the 3200 (14:25.44) and seventh in the 1600 (6:47.38).

Dropping to the shorter distances, Onalise Albaugh and Latosha Wiford had solid outings. Wiford finished third in the 400 with a time of 1:06.63, which she paired with a fourth-place finish in the 200, clocking a time of 28.96 seconds. Albaugh narrowly edged Wiford in the 200, earning third with a time of 28.80 seconds. She also took fourth in the 100 (13.39 seconds).

Nakalyn Garner placed in both hurdle events for the Torrington girls. She finished fourth in the 100-meter event, clocking a time of 18.29 seconds, along with a seventh-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (54.14 seconds). HeLena McGaugh joined Garner in the top-eight for the 100-meter hurdles, taking seventh with a time of 20 seconds flat.

Remaining on the track, Torrington’s two relay teams placed in the top-four. Albaugh, McGaugh, Wiford and Hailey Boslau turned in a time of 54.55 seconds in the 400-meter relay to finish third. McGaugh and Wiford were joined by Sherbeyn and Katie Wiford for the 1600-meter relay, securing fourth with a time of 4:42.40.

Joining Garner in the pole vault, Albaugh and Katie Wiford both turned in 7-foot, 4-inch efforts to tie for eighth. Samantha Hill finished third in the triple jump (32 feet, 5 inches) and seventh in the long jump (14 feet, 4.5 inches). Boslau snagged eighth in both the long jump, clearing 14 feet, 2 inches, and triple jump, clearing 28 feet, 9.75 inches.

The Lady Blazers notched 86.5 points to finish third in the team race. Gering, Neb. took the top spot with 162.25 points, with Sidney, Neb. snagging second with 154 points.

Boys

Torrington’s throwers led the way for the Blazer boys, combining for six top-eight finishes between the two events. Nathaniel Woodruff took the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 11 inches. He edged fellow Blazer Jacob Wamboldt by half an inch, with Wamboldt snagging second with a put of 45 feet, 10.5 inches. Corbin Harris took sixth with a 44-foot, 8.5-inch effort.

Woodruff also paced Torrington in the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 7 inches, earning him third. Wamboldt and Harris finished seventh and eighth, with the senior recording a throw of 116 feet, 11 inches, and the sophomore turning in a throw of 115 feet.

Sticking with the field events, Bryan Lemmon captured second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches. Cody Pierce cleared 9 feet, 8 inches in the pole vault, finishing seventh. Brett Posten had an 18-foot, 8.5-inch effort in the long jump, earning him eighth. Posten also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80 seconds.

On the track, Lemmon picked up a top finish in the 110-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 15.21 seconds. Thomas Heron finished the same event in 21.25 seconds, taking seventh. Heron also snagged eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.39 seconds.

Aaron Borger recorded two second-place finishes on the day. He took the silver in the 400 with a time of 53.48 seconds, along with a time of 2:06.81 in the 800 to give him another second-place finish. Kevin Parish was not far behind in either event, taking sixth in both the 400 (55.83 seconds) and 800 (2:14.35).

The Blazer boys had two relay teams finish in the top-six as well. Parish, Posten, Nick Sherbeyn and Dylan Waller linked up for the 400-meter relay, earning fifth with a time of 47.11 seconds. Borger, Lemmon, Pierce and Josh Posten finished sixth in the 1600-meter relay, clocking in a time of 3:49.22.

Torrington’s boys finished fifth in the team race, racking up 72 points. Sidney stood atop the standings with 153 points, followed by Scottsbluff (137) and Gering (99.5).

The Blazer boys and girls compete in the Best in the West Classic today (Wednesday). The team returns to action this weekend for competition in Casper both Friday and Saturday.
