CHEYENNE – The Torrington tennis teams split with Cheyenne South on Tuesday afternoon. The boys fell 3-2, but the Lady Blazers scored their third win in a row, defeating the Bison 3-2.

In the girls’ division, South defaulted at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, giving Torrington a pair of wins. The No. 3 doubles team of Katie Watson and Kassidy Hurley earned the third win securing the team victory, winning 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) in a tiebreaker.

“It was a hard-fought match that had an exciting tiebreaker to end the second set,” coach Alex Schaneman said.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Watson and Shaelee Jackson and the No. 2 team of Julianna Russell and Jazmyne West both came up short.

In the boys’ match, No. 1 doubles team of Gabe Russel and Cody Clayton won 6-3, 6-3.

“(They) played well together and made quick work of their opponents,” Schaneman said.

The No. 3 doubles team of Jorey Asmus and Gabe Posten earned their first win of the season, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win.

The No. 2 doubles team of Adam Bartlett and Ben Firminhac won the first set 6-3 before falling 6-1, 6-0 in the second and third sets.

“This is a match that they know they can win, and I look forward to seeing them play this doubles team again,” Schaneman said.

In singles action, Aidyn Saucedo fell 6-1, 6-2.

“Aidyn played hard against a legitimate contender from Cheyenne South,” Schaneman said. “He was able to make him work a little bit and forced him to make mistakes.”

No. 2 singles player Isaac Bartlett lost 6-2, 6-2.

Despite the score, Schaneman said the match was closer than the final score showed.

The Blazers travel to Sheridan on Saturday to face Cody and Powell. Torrington will face the Broncs at 11 a.m. and the Panthers at 3 p.m.

“Overall, I am very excited about our team’s growth so early in the season,” Schaneman said. “Our boys have been solid all season and our girls get more and more competitive each time they play.”
