Blazer golf heads to state

DOUGLAS – The Torrington High School golf teams made their final preparations for the Class 3A State Golf Championships over the weekend with the annual Absaraka Conference Golf Tournament, hosted by Douglas High School.

The Blazers were led by Gage Gibson and Sydney Eaton.

In the girls’ division, the Lady Blazers finished fourth as a team with a two-day total of 697.

Eaton shot rounds of 108 and 101 to finished fifth.

Lauren Orr finished one spot out of the top 10 with a 237, including rounds of 119 and 118.

Carleigh Dugger finished 16th with a 251, while Madyson Banister was 17th with a 256. Kaylee Pittman placed 19th with a 286.

Wheatland won the conference title with a 547, while Buffalo was second with 651. Worland was third with a 694.

In the boys’ division, the Blazers was fifth as a team with a 737.

Gibson placed in a tie for ninth with rounds of 86 and 84 for a 170. Alex Waring was 15th with rounds of 94 and 89 for a 183. Malaki Braddy was 17th shooting a 90 and 94 for a 184, while Ryder Hackbarth was 22nd with a 96 and 92. Josh Stitt wrapped up the tournament with rounds of 99 and 93 to place 24th.

Riverton won the conference title with a 626, while Worland was second with 677. Douglas was third at 681.

“Overall, everyone showed improvement again this week, and will hopefully play well in Lander this week at state,” THS coach Jeff Halley said.

The Blazers will conclude the 2021 season on Sept. 17-18 at the Lander Golf Course. Action gets underway at 11 a.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
