Twenty-three Torrington Trailblazer boys and 18 Lady Blazers all placed Friday at the Binfield Invite in Scottsbluff in Torrington’s first action of the spring.

Blazer boys third, girls fourth at Binfield

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Twenty-three Torrington Trailblazer boys and 18 Lady Blazers all placed Friday at the Binfield Invite in Scottsbluff in Torrington’s first action of the spring.

The Torrington boys secured only one first-place finish, with Aaron Borger, Cameron Juma, Matthew Garcia and Josh Posten combining to put up a time of 8:35.97 to take the top spot in the 3200-meter relay. In other relay action, Juma, Parish, Pake Haun and Kevin Parish recorded a time of 3:47.72 in the 1600-meter relay to take third. The foursome of Parish, Brett Posten, Bo Moorehouse and Dylan Waller took third in the 400-meter relay (48.46 seconds).

Outside of the distance relay, Bryan Lemmon had the best finish, taking second in the high jump after clearing 6 feet, 2 inches. Casey Britton cleared 5 feet, 2 inches in the same event to take seventh. In the triple jump, Waller snagged a sixth-place finish with a 33-foot, 10-inch effort. Cade Schwartzkopf secured sixth in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet, 7 inches, while Cody Pierce cleared 10 feet, 1 inch to slide into eighth.

A trio of Blazers all placed in both the shot put and discus. Nathaniel Woodruff took third in the shot put (48-3.5) and sixth in the discus (125-7) to pace Torrington in both events. Jacob Wamboldt and Corbin Harris finished back-to-back in both events. In the shot put, Wamboldt had a throw of 44 feet, 1.5 inches (fifth), while Harris had a put of 43 feet, 0.5 inches (sixth). Wamboldt took seventh in the discus (122-1), while Harris recorded an eighth-place spot (117-8).

Moorehouse had a successful day on the track. He finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.38 seconds, while also taking fifth in the 100, clocking a time of 11.93 seconds.

In the 400, Parish stopped the clock at 55.04 seconds, taking seconds. Garcia took sixth (57.41 seconds), and Nick Sherbeyn snagged an eighth-place finish (58.24 seconds). Moving up in distance, Aaron Borger took second in the 800 with a time of 2:06.32. Haun clocked a time of 11:26.18 in the 3200 to take fourth.

In the hurdles, Lemmon snagged another second-place finish in the 110-meter event, clocking a time of 15.92 seconds. Thomas Heron took sixth in the same event with a time of 22.34 seconds. In the 300-meter hurdles, Quentin Meyer took eighth (48.05 seconds).

The Torrington boys racked up 107 points, edging 3A opponent Douglas’ 71 points. Scottsbluff had the top spot with 232 points, while North Platte had 171. L-FL was fifth with 58 points.

Girls

Sera Glass led the Lady Blazers’ charge with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run, taking first in a time of 2:39.11. She also finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:06.48, just ahead of Adia Sherbeyn’s time of 1:09.40, earning her eighth. In the longest event, Brittney Schlager took second in the 3200 (14:18.08).

In the shorter events, Onalise Albaugh picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100, finishing in 13.77 seconds. A trio of Lady Blazers rounded out the top-eight. Latosha Wiford (14.09), Helena McGaugh (14.23) and Katie Wiford (14.27) finished sixth, seventh and eighth in the event. Latosha Wiford also took sixth in the 200 with a time of 29.07 seconds.

Nakalyn Garner had a solid day in the hurdles, securing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.64 seconds, which she paired with another third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.41 seconds. McGaugh joined Garner in the top-eight of the 100-meter event, taking seventh with a time of 19.73.

The Lady Blazers’ 1600-meter relay team of Albaugh, McGaugh, Latosha Wiford and Renee Cline combined for a time of 4:47.92, earning a third-place spot. The same foursome competed in the 400-meter relay, taking fourth with a time of 1:01.58.

Garner carried her solid day into the pole vault, taking second with a 9-foot effort. Albaugh cleared 8 feet in the same event to lock up third place.

Cline also placed in elsewhere, finishing fourth in the triple jump with a 31-foot, 3.5-inch effort. She also cleared 14 feet, 2.25 inches in the long jump to finish sixth.

In the girls race, Torrington picked up 84 points to finish fourth. North Platte, Neb. took the top spot with 191 points, with Scottsbluff taking second with 141.5 points. Douglas took third (117.5) and Lingle-Fort Laramie had the fifth spot (65).

The Torrington track team returns to action Thursday at an invite at Cheyenne South.
