Blazer boys third at Rawlins

RAWLINS – The Torrington High School golf teams battled two days of rain and high winds, but the boys’ managed to place third – the highest among the 3A teams.

Torrington had a trio of players finish in the top 10.

Senior Ryder Hackbarth paced the Blazers, finishing in a tie for second place. Hackbarth shot rounds of 90 and 86 for a two-day total of 176. Malaki Braddy finished seventh with rounds of 91 and 93 for a 184. Alex Waring finished 10th with a 186 with rounds 94 and 92. Gage Gibson placed 14th with a two-day total of 193 (88 and 105). Josh Stitt finished tied for 16th with a 197 (88 and 109).

Torrington also took a couple junior varsity players to compete. Orion Medina finished 21st with a 200 (106 and 94), while Mason Wilkes shot a 212 (101 and 111).

As a team, the Blazers finished with a 157-over par, just two strokes off second place Laramie and 26 shots behind tournament winner Kelly Walsh.

In the girls’ division, Lauren Orr led the Lady Blazers with a sixth-place finish, shooting a 253 for the two days. She shot rounds of 127 and 126. Carleigh Duggger finished the weekend with a 279 and an eighth-place finish. Kaylee Pittman finished 10th with a 287, while Madyson Banister shot a 290. Sydney Eaton shot a 109 on Friday after withdrawing from Thursday’s round.

“I was proud of how our kids hung in there and battled,” THS coach Jeff Halley said. “Walking 10 miles, swinging a golf club in that weather wears on everyone.”

Torrington hosts the THS Invite on Thursday and Friday at the Cottonwood at Torrington Golf Course. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. both days.
