RAWLINS – The offensive onslaught by the Torrington High School boys’ soccer team continues.

On Friday, the Blazers wrapped up the season with a 5-0 road victory over the Rawlins Outlaws.

In their last three games, Torrington has outscored the opposition 20-2, including a 9-0 win over Newcastle and 6-2 win over Riverton.

The win over Rawlins also secured the No. 1 seed for the Class 3A State Soccer Championships this weekend in Cheyenne.

The match started out slow with the Blazers scoring only one goal in the first half as senior Chase Miller gave Torrington a 1-0 lead.

“It was very similar to when they were here,” coach Gabe Bartlett said. “Not a lot of offense from them, but they have that great goalkeeper.”

In the second half, the team exploded for four more goals, pulling away for the win.

“Then the second half, we just dominated and walked away with it,” Bartlett said. “It was a pretty good match. We are in a pretty good spot going into state, scoring-wise. They are starting to get it a little bit.”

Miller added a second goal, while Kieser Wolfe, Pipo Rodriquez and Skyler Thomas had one each in the second half.

“(Rawlins) packed the box against us. We did a lot better job of spreading out and everyone did their job,” Bartlett said. “It really paid off.”

Now the team’s attention turns to the state tournament.

The Blazers (11-4 overall and 8-2 in the 3A East) open the weekend against the Lander Valley Tigers (8-6 and 7-5 in the 3A West).

“Lander, they look identical to us,” Bartlett said. “Same kind of formation. It’s something our guys have seen in practice every day.”

The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Johnson Junior High School.

Bartlett hopes to keep the offense rolling like it has the last three games.

“Going back to the Riverton game, it was eye-opening for them,” Bartlett said. “If we can do our jobs and keep our wits, we can spread teams out. Not a lot of teams can run with us. If we can get teams spread out, there are a lot more lanes to run through with our speed.”
