Bivens signs for Snow College

TORRINGTON – Torrington Trailblazer senior Breyden Bivens put pen to paper Wednesday morning to sign his letter of intent to play football for Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

“It’s a great accomplishment,” Bivens said after signing his letter of intent. “It’s what I’ve been dreaming of my whole life.”

Bivens is going to join a roster already loaded with talent. Snow College finished fourth in the country in the final polls by NJCAA. The Badgers went 10-1 a season ago, winning their games by an average score of 50-27. Snow College won the El Toro Bowl over Blinn College 43-41 to cap off the season.

Bivens is no stranger to success on the gridiron. As a senior this year, Bivens earned all-state and all-conference, as well as earning a spot on the Casper Star Tribune’s Super 25 third team. As a junior, he also picked up all-conference honors.

“Breyden is a kid that I can honestly say when he first started here to where he’s at now is one of the most improved players I have worked with in my entire career,” coach Mark Lenhardt said. “I’m just really, really excited for him to get a chance to move on and play at the next level.”

As a junior in 2016, Bivens stepped into the starting role, finishing the year with 121.3 yards per game through the air and 17.6 rushing yards per contest. He was credited with 19 touchdowns on the year, including 16 through the air, while throwing only three interceptions.

Stepping into his senior season, the Blazer upped his yardage to 160.5 through the air and 17.2 on the ground per game. He racked up 19 passing touchdowns and six rushing touchdowns throughout the season.

“They are a spread and they do a lot of run game,” Bivens said of his new offense. “I think that fits me pretty well. I can throw it and I can run a little bit too.”

With Bivens under center over the past two years, Torrington posted a combined record of 15-5, including two runs to the playoffs. This past fall, Bivens and the Blazers reached the state title game, finishing as runner-up.

Snow College is a junior college competing in the NJCAA. Both Lenhardt and Bivens see the merit going to play for a junior college.

“If I do get that starting job, then the potential is endless,” Bivens said. “That opens up so much more. That is the plan going into this – work up to the starting job and see where it goes.”

“The nice thing about playing junior college football is it gives you some flexibility when your done with different options to play,” Lenhardt added. “I have no doubt that he will go there and do a great job. Whether he is there a year or two years, it’s exciting for one of our kids go on and play at the next level.”

Bivens joins Jacob Wamboldt as Torrington seniors who signed to play college football, with Wamboldt heading to Black Hills State University in the fall. Logan Harris, a 2016 graduate from Torrington, was the starting center for the University of Wyoming football team as a freshman.

“It’s so good for our program and school that when other players see that these guys are signing to go to college, then that’s hopefully their goals,” Lenhardt said. “We have a nice run of guys going on to play. Now we are putting 1-2 kids in a year to go play at the college level. That’s really good for our school and our community.”
