TORRINGTON – Billy “Bill” B. Marsh died Jan. 28, 2023, in Torrington. He was 87 years old. The youngest of 10 children, Bill was born on March 24, 1935, in Alliance, Nebraska to parents Lee and Josephine (Donovan) Marsh. His five sisters and four brothers all predeceased him.

Bill participated in many activities in high school. His successful athletic events motivated him toward an educational career in teaching and coaching. He graduated from Chadron State Teacher’s College in 1959 after a three-year tour of duty with the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served near Seoul, South Korea.

He married Janice (Chink) Long on Sept. 2, 1956. They shared nearly 60 wonderful years together until her passing in 2016. Two sons, Michael and Jeffrey, were born to their union. Bill began his career as a teacher and coach in Lingle, but later moved into college administration at Eastern Wyoming College upon completion of his graduate studies at Ohio University in 1968.

After his retirement from Eastern Wyoming College, Bill volunteered in numerous ways to his community and to the State of Wyoming. He served for several years on the Mountain Pacific Quality Health Foundation and was very active in AARP Wyoming. Most notably he received the Wyoming AARP Lifetime Service and Achievement Award. Bill also was very active in providing Alzheimer’s Awareness throughout Wyoming. His desire to serve others and love for his family was unmatched. 

Bill is survived by his sons, Michael and Jeff (Cathy), four wonderful grandchildren and their spouses, and five beautiful great grandchildren: grandson Britton and Brenna Marsh and great grandsons Finley Michael and McCafferty James; granddaughter Blakeley and Nicholas Lamp and great grandsons Baylor Michael and Beckham Andrew; granddaughter Allison and Logan Barker and great granddaughter Briar Madeline; and grandson Jacob Marsh. He is also survived by 27 nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled at All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at Platte Valley Bank Community Room in Torrington.
