Big second half lifts Lady Lancers to victory

RIVERTON – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team outscored the Central Wyoming College Lady Rustlers 57-35 in the second half to pull away for an 85-61 road win on Saturday in Riverton.

CWC led 26-23 with 4:30 left in the half before the Lady Lancers began their charge.

EWC used a 5-0 run over the remainder of the half to take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

The Lady Lancers picked up right where they left off in the   third quarter.

Freshman Mara Neira drained a 3-pointer in the opening seconds of the third to keep the momentum in their favor.

By the end of the third, the Eastern Wyoming lead reached 17 at 60-43.

Over the final 10 minutes of the game, the visiting Lady Lancers continued to grow the lead, outscoring Central Wyoming 25-18.

EWC had four players in double figures in the win. Neira led the team with 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while sophomore Mariana Zanelatto Minotto added 17 on 6-of-8 shooting. Sophomore Raleigh Basart added 12 and freshman Ana Gascon 11.

The Lady Lancers are now 11-7 on the season and will wrap up the road portion of the schedule on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Powell against Northwest College.
