LITTLETON, Colo. – Avis Zimmer Johnson peacefully went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2019, at her home in the Gardens of Columbine in Littleton.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Feb. 23, 2019, at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, Colo.

Avis, daughter of Frank Anthony and Erma Wynant Zimmer, was born May 16, 1928, in Minatare, Neb. Her family soon moved to Torrington, where she attended elementary through high school. Growing up, she enjoyed many activities, including marching band and 4-H. She formed many life-long friendships during this time in her life.

Avis raised her family and spent most of her adult life in Denver, Colo. She was a loving mother and spending time with her family was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting and quilting. Friends and family often received gifts of paintings, embroidery, quilts and wall hangings. Playing cards with friends was great fun and peals of laughter were often heard. Her friendships with the people in her Bible study group, church circle, neighbors, Merry Widows, and Red Hats all brought her great joy. Avis was a person with great vitality. Her infectious smile, keen sense of humor, and ready laugh made her a popular person with all ages. Her warmth and acceptance of each person made them feel loved.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Anthony and Erma Wynant Zimmer and her husbands, Dallas Nielsen, Owen Wischhusen, and Richard C. Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Lani Nielsen and Kristin Habicht (Glenn); grandchildren Vivan Wickam, Aaron Wickham, Adam Wickam, Erika Habicht-Griffiths, and Joel Habicht; six great-grandchildren; stepchildren Linda, Chuck, Donna, and Brian; and her brother, Russell Zimmer as well as a host of loving friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Gardens of Columbine, Synergy, and Suncrest Hospice for their support and love for Avis.
